Fond memories of travelling over the Pontcysyllte aqueduct on our canal boat holiday this summer. Looking down from the boat is not for the faint hearted!

My husband and I have a fairly big age difference and when explaining phone boxes to our teenage daughter recently he said 'it was 2p in my day' and I got to feel much younger and say it was 20p in the nineties!
Thanks for this thread Emma. Disappointingly, my mother reads the Daily Mail and brought up this headline last night. I was able to give her a full response to which she had no reply!
Feeling proud today. First time delivering a PD presentation: I talked about Cognitive Science to a group of Physics HoDs from our group of schools. Questions at the end turned into me doing a sales pitch for @carousel-learning.bsky.social as I'd used it as a great application of #cogsci principles.
Who's coming to the @cogscisci.bsky.social conference?
Here's something to whet your appetite (tickets still available):

Only one more week til half term! As well as the usual DIY and gardening (just sunbathing if I'm honest) I'll also be attending this fab conference in Surrey. You should too! Get your ticket before they sell out!
SCHEDULE RELEASED #edusky
Cogscisci Surrey is a month away! Here are the amazing talks we have to offer featuring:
@adamboxereducation.bsky.social @drgarethbates.bsky.social @carlhendrick.substack.com @lambhearttea.bsky.social @hugheshaili.bsky.social @mrlockyer.bsky.social @mbdscience.bsky.social
That's exactly the video I showed my class today! Shame it's not available anymore. Not sure the budget will stretch to £400+ ☹️ Thanks though!
Can anyone suggest where I can find apparatus for the SHC continuous flow demo? I couldn't find it on the Philip Harris website. @hookean.bsky.social @chatphysics.bsky.social
Not really. I did increase the proportion of online tasks and any written tasks like exam qs I just put in OneNote. I think students find things more convenient plus there isn't the excuse of 'I lost the sheet'. In Sept I'd also 'drop into' their OneNote and give reminders just before the due date.
We're in our first year of 1:1 across the whole school and I'm a big fan. Our students handwrite with an Apple Pencil in OneNote. Marking is so much easier. Homework completion is up. Printing costs have plummeted. Quizzing and interactives like phet are amazing. But yes, they are heavily managed!
Here's my rapidly improvised colander technique this morning. It's a bit hazy but still a nice effect.
Our department recently adopted @carousel-learning.bsky.social and I set a study pack to my Yr11s at the end of the Radioactivity topic. A student who normally gets 6/7 got a 9 on the topic test. "Miss, can you set some more of those flashcard things, I found them really helpful for my revision."
Once a week would be a dream! I teach across 6 different labs in the week plus tutor time twice a day on the other side of school. It's usually not more than 3 lab changes in a day though. It helps to have an office plus kids on devices so pretty much paperless.
I love it when Robert Winston tells the students that he doesn't recommend they try it tonight.
Great to see @helenczerski.bsky.social and @jimalkhalili.bsky.social at Science Live lectures today. I'll have lots of questions to field when I see my students on Monday!
