I had a great conversation with Dr. Heather Warfield on the Psychology of Pilgrimage podcast about the 1927 American Legion convention in Paris and blind veteran Frank Schoble, about whom I write in the epilogue to my book, Constructing Disability after the Great War (@illinoispress.bsky.social)
The Post Star’s coverage of @loweradkpride.bsky.social’s work with the town of Moreau to fly the Pride flag during Pride Month:
Getting back into writing some different projects since finishing my first book. Remembering that the first pass through is usually shit, but it’s still good to get something written down.
Number of students killed in Israeli attack on school in southern Iran rises to 24 We have reported earlier that an Israeli strike hit an elementary girl’s school in Minab, a city in the Hormozgan province of southern Iran, killing five people. "There's an old saying in Tennessee—I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee—that says, 'Fool me once, shame on...shame on you.' Fool me—you can't get fooled again." - George W. Bush
If you liked this experiment, I published a full piece today in the same vein: a text that gets 100 years older with every section, from a modern blog post to a medieval chronicle.
It's a single story spanning 1000 years of English. See how far you get.

If this is true--it cements the US-Russian alliance. The USA becomes formally the enemy of freedom. Own up to this Republicans.
Back in the old Twitter days (RIP), I had an ongoing thread related to World War I munitions uncovered in various places around the world. Maybe I'll continue that here. I guess, these shells really do turn up almost everywhere...

Seth Harp’s book The Fort Bragg Cartel.
This book by Seth Harp was unimaginably dark, a searing and gritty investigation of the inner world of the special operations community. One of the most interesting books I’ve ever read.
Today, I stepped on a Lego. In my painful effort to shift weight to my other foot in order to relieve pressure from the Lego, I stepped on another Lego.
WHY did I buy a 100-year-old laxative tin from eBay? Because a blind WWI vet I’m currently researching for a new project was a pharmacist and patented his own laxative pill after the war, and I couldn’t pass up owning a piece of his history!

Episode 2 of #AmericanRevolution features free Black soldier Lemuel Haynes who enlisted in Granville, Massachusetts. My 6th Great Grandfather, Benjamin Barnes, served with him. They went to Roxbury and then Ticonderoga, the latter location where they first heard the Declaration of Independence.
