Oh! Kobo should still allow other apps like Borrowbox or Noosa or whatever too. You can side load your own epubs as well. The open source aspect of it is why I went with Kobo over Kindle. It's just hard to get amazon-purchased ebooks onto it.

You can use Libby app to send books! Kobo can do it right on the ereader, along with other apps. I check a book out on my phone and it syncs it to my kobo. I think you can do the same with Kindle but the book needs to be sent to your Amazon account or something

I use Libby on my kobo all the time and it works great. Got my partner a Paperwhite at the same time, she likes hers but is tied to the Amazon ecosystem. You can use Libby but can't access it directly on your Kindle which isn't a big deal. Kinda boils down to what corpo you want to support lol
