Screenshot of a graphic from the CDC showing the massive drop in measles cases in the USA from 1963-2023, particularly after the rollout of the measles vaccine in 1963.
RFK Jr. claimed that there have been no successes coming from HHS in the past 40 years.
I beg to differ.
He and his HHS lackeys, Makary, Bhattacharya, and Prasad, who spread misinformation, will be personally responsible for the resurgence of vaccine preventable disease in the U.S.

Post by Aaron Ruper:
Jay Bhattacharya claims that RFK Jr is “devoted to the scientific method” 🙃
Jay Bhattacharya speaking at an RFK Jr for President rally
Jay Bhattacharya and Kevin Bardosh editorial:
“RFK Jr will disrupt the medical establishment”
Tweet by Jay Bhattacharya: “At least 2 of the authors of this piece [a piece in the NYT by former CDC directors] were in charge of the CDC when it embraced politicized school closures and COVID vaccine mandates. For them to criticize Secretary Robert Kennedy Jr for his efforts to restore gold standard science to the CDC harms public health.”
I think the RFK Jr-Jay Bhattacharya anti-vaccine partnership is extraordinarily dangerous; together, running HHS & NIH, hand in hand, they’re doing enormous damage to public health & health research. Seeing Jay Bhattacharya *praise* what RFK Jr has done to the CDC is deeply, deeply disturbing.

Absolutely! In some diagnoses it can occur early on and it’s an incredibly socially distressing experience. Treatment and palliation of these symptoms matters so much, I am often frustrated by the nihilistic attitude towards attempted treatment.

But especially in more advanced dementia it’s very difficult to distinguish. I’m not sure a perfect distinction matters, if it were necessary to treat I would mostly approach the same way anyway. The localization and literature on the symptom is fascinating

I do distinguish between them but I think there is a continuum. I tend to use the term pathological laughing and crying (PLC) for pedantic reasons, but there are definitely cases where there is congruence of emotion and display but maybe way out of proportion on the display

Even here, most of us start with serotonergic agents first. SSRIs can be effective, the onset is quicker than for depression — days instead of weeks, and probably because it’s more driven by direct modulation of serotonin neurotransmission

Some people who think care is going to be easier to navigate and quicker outside of the VA are in for a painfully rude awakening. The VA does a fantastic job on so many things and has excellent reviews by their patients at rates higher than most health systems.

Trump’s EPA just eliminated its entire research arm—the “heart and brain” of the agency—and is laying off 3,700 workers.
That’s 1,155 scientists, chemists, and biologists gone.
Less science. More pollution.
This isn’t reform. It’s sabotage.

Today's ACIP meeting is usually a time where experts come together to inform the future of vaccines. That is not what today will be. That is not what we can stand behind. The AAP will continue to recommend its own childhood vaccine schedule -- just as we have since the 1930s

This is a very good thread. There are a lot of opinions about how conferences should work written by people who have no practical experience organizing a large scientific conference.
The AV/contract issue is such a big thing. I can’t plug in a damn extension cord without being charged at some!

Michael Anton Was a Menswear Writer — And He Hated Trump’s Fashion
A dive into the weird world of StyleForum reveals the secrets of “conservative business dress.”
I spent many years on a menswear forum with Michael Anton, director of policy planning in Trump's administration. My editors asked if I'd be interested in writing something on him. I have so many stories to tell; this is only a small bit of our shared menswear world

If you are a real social scientist, it is very hard to maintain the claim that all evidence of systemic racism is not real science. Much of it is published in top-ranked peer-reviewed journals in Bhattacharya's field of economics. He can either do MAGA, or science, but not both.

❌ FALSE: “For 20 years…we were directing Alzheimer’s research to one hypothesis. And any other hypotheses were shut down.” - Sec. Kennedy
Over the last decade, less than 14% of new National Institutes of Health (NIH) Alzheimer’s projects focused on amyloid beta as the therapeutic target. 🧵(1/4)

Thank you! I have @billmiller-epi.bsky.social to thank for any claim to epi knowledge I have. His clinical epidemiology course at UNC remains one of the best courses I’ve ever taken — much of it on an overhead projector circa 2011 or so 😂
