My inner child is my spirit animal.
If you want to make hardware less reliable, add software.
If you want to make software less reliable, add AI.
I need a “2025 Wrapped” for all the “2025 Wrapped” emails and app notifications I’ve gotten in the last week.
Removed all social media —except for LinkedIn, which I use as a tool for work— from my phone. Instead, I’ll check in a once or twice a day from a desktop browser.
Xcode 27 wishlist: Adaptive app icon for internal TestFlight builds where the longer it’s been since you installed it, the more transparent it gets, fading into nothingness like my hopes for shipping a new app by year end
😂
Nice! Gets me thinking, I have a passport-size Traveler’s Notebook that could probably double as something to carry my cards 🤔
Folks that carry little notebooks to jot notes instead of using your phone, I’m curious: where do y’all carry your stuff? I typically try to carry as little as possible, but between wallet, glasses, keys, phone… where do I put the notebook & pen?
😂
Quality LinkedIn update
This photo features a striking black and white long-haired cat sitting elegantly inside a wooden tray. The cat has a fluffy, well-groomed coat with predominantly white fur on its chest and front legs, contrasting beautifully with its black fur on the face, back, and sides. The cat's expressive green eyes are wide open, giving it a curious and attentive look. Its black face markings include a distinctive black patch around the nose and mouth. The tray, made of light-coloured wood with cut-out handles, rests on a soft surface, possibly a couch or table. In the background, a modern living room is visible, featuring a black leather sofa adorned with a pillow and a television screen displaying soft, colourful visuals. The lighting is natural and soft, highlighting the cat's fluffy fur and serene posture, creating a cozy, homey atmosphere.
Happy #Caturday
Without downloading any new pics, where are you mentally?

I am also working on the spiritual successor (can apps have spirits?) to Thought Detox. More to come on that, but I'll be digging into all of this a bit more in this week's newsletter.

I got to talk about it, along with other self-care/mental-health apps, with @anildash.com on the Function podcast a few years back. The site is gone, but thanks to the open nature of podcasts, you can still find it online:
podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/w...
open.spotify.com/episode/3Tw1...
It also meant that the Thought Detox web app went away. Thankfully, my projects have been exported to GitHub, so it was super simple to switch hosting over to GitHub Pages. You can now find it at web.thoughtdetox.app!
Glitch project hosting was shut down on July 8th, which made me pretty sad. It tried so hard to bring back the best era of the web: a time where things were weird, where they were fun, where you could right-click > View Source in your browser and learn.
Not sure who needs to hear this, but:
The half-day you spend closing a ticket almost certainly won’t matter in ten years, but the half-day you spend working on career development absolutely can.
Me: Icon Composer looks fun! This should simplify a lot of things. Let’s build something!
Apple: okay, but don’t expect it to work with our CI/CD pipelines!
This was supposed to be a maybe-too-subtle jab at how we’ve lost all of the delight and value of the open web, and every single reply I got pointed to using AI to get what I’m looking for.
I think this is Actually Very Interesting.™️

I want a search engine where I can say, "forget product pages and news sources, prioritize results from personal blogs and my social networks" when I search for something like, "how stable is the macOS 26 beta"?
My intuition says “no,” but my impostor syndrome says “shut up, intuition.”

Been trying to get to a point where I can run 5K, twice a week, using a training program from the NHS. Today's run was tough — lousy sleep and too much time away from running had me pooped by the halfway point.
Next run will be better!
It’s July 2nd, which means we’ve reached the halfway point of 2025.

Oops, bought (yet another) domain for a new idea. 😬
Ah yes, our household’s Victoria Day weekend ritual of finally taking down the Christmas lights
Adding cherry tomatoes to a salad without cutting them in half for easy forking is borderline sociopathic
That’s one of the packages I was looking at! Seems really great , Marcin. 🙂
