IN CLOSING:
Intent does not cancel impact.
Explanation does not equal absolution.
Black people get to feel a way about racial harm.
Full stop. No footnotes. No disclaimers.
If your framework protects everyone except the people most historically harmed by the act...
YOUR FRAMEWORK IS BROKEN.
ON PUBLIC CONVERSATIONS & SLIPPERY SLOPES:
Acknowledging Black discomfort is not a slippery slope.
Silencing it is.
We can hold compassion for disability without gaslighting Black people about what that word does to us.
ON DISPARATE GRACE:
Notice how often Black people are asked to be patient, measured, and understanding... even when the harm targets us directly.
Grace is frequently extended over Black pain, not with it
CORE POINT:
Black people are not required to override our survival responses to make others more comfortable.
Our bodies do not pause trauma responses to check for medical context.
That processing comes after the hit.
Two things can be true at the same time:
- A person may not intend harm
- Harm still occurred
Both deserve to be held, not weaponized against each other.
ON ABLEISM VS ACCOUNTABILITY:
Saying “this harmed Black people” is not ableism.
It is naming reality.
Ableism is denying someone’s humanity.
Accountability is refusing to deny ours.
There is historical, psychological, and medical documentation on how racialized trauma lives in the body.
This isn’t opinion. It’s recorded fact.
Nigger is not “just a word.”
It is a neurological trigger forged through centuries of violence, terror, and conditioning.
Black people don’t choose how our bodies react to racial slurs.
Our nervous systems learned that response the hard way.
I was gonna hold my tongue about it... But naw... Let me cook.
Let’s be very clear about the BAFTA incident.
Explaining why something happened is not the same as erasing the harm it caused.
A disability can explain behavior.
It does not neutralize impact
