"As for the direction of SpongeBob SquarePants after the first movie, I feel like that's something audiences have already formed their own opinions on over time. I've always just appreciated the incredible gift that's been given which has provided...
Q: Does it ever get boring being Mr. Krabs and what's your take on the direction of SpongeBob after the first movie?
A: "No, never. It's fun. It’s a pretty lightweight job in the sense that you go into the booth, spend a few hours, and you get to play."
"You didn't really question anything, you just trusted it. And the truth is, we all kind of followed along happily because he had such clarity and conviction in what he was creating."
Q: If you were given full control of Mr. Krabs, who he is and his personality back in time you get to start him over. Would you change anything?
A: "I wouldn't change a thing. I had a great deal of respect for Stephen Hillenburg, he was a genius who really made that world come alive and work."

Q: What was your favorite episode of all time to record?
A: "Hmm, this one is hard - they're so many! 'Arrgh!' was a blast to do. With Mr. Krabs, it was one of those episodes where I really got to have fun with him in a more centered way. Episodes like that give you a little more space to play...
"Those moments are incredibly humbling, and they give me a reason to keep going back. You don't really set out expecting that kind of impact you just try to do the work well but when it comes back to you like that, it means a great deal. Also, they make a lot of money!"
...in that time, and it was a joy to be part of it. But even beyond that, what's stayed with me is meeting people over the years who’ll say things like, 'thank you for my childhood,' or 'I didn't have the easiest childhood, but your work was one of the bright spots for me."
Q: Nostalgically, was there a favorite era of SpongeBob for you (and if so, which)?
A: "I've always had a deep appreciation for the earlier years of the show, especially when Stephen was so directly involved and steering the creative vision. There was a real sense of clarity and purpose...
"The answer might change when we get The Mr. Krabs Movie!"
"The films, I'd have to go with the first movie. That was a really special experience. It felt like a big celebration of the world we all created, and it was exciting to be part of something that brought all of those characters to the big screen in such a way."
"Frankendoodle" Episode 34b, Season 2 January 21, 2002
Q: What is your favorite episode and movie?
A: "One of my favorite episodes has to be Frankendoodle. I think DoodleBob is one of the most creative characters ever introduced in the show, just such a wild, imaginative idea, and a lot of fun to play within."
...mind, a very nautical, slightly old-school pirate or captain energy. For me, it's actually become easier over time. As I've gotten older, my voice has naturally settled into that lower register, so a lot of that character just feels more intuitive now rather than something I have to force."
Q: Did you have any particular inspirations when coming up with the voice for Mr. Krabs?
A: "Growing up, I watched a lot of nautical adventure stories. When I first started working on Mr. Krabs, I leaned into that deep, resonant, theatrical kind of voice that Stephen Hillenburg originally had in...
