Since the vandalism was suspect the insurance company hasn't paid off (yet). Now it's boarded up and I have been reliably informed that the situation is currently "in the hands of the FBI".

But they didn't reinvest in the facility. Building got old. Business dropped off. A new owner bought the place based on some sketchy financing and a lot of TIF $$$ that went down the drain. Delay, delay, delay. There was some suspicious vandalism that did major damage.

A sordid tale. Back when I was living in Chicago & coming down here on city business, it was a Hilton. It had conference facilities. 1st floor atrium businesses like a Starbucks. A decent haberdashery. A median-priced restaurant on the ground floor & a high-end steak joint in the penthouse.
