Malik’s bloodied hands claw at a wooden door covered in scratches made by his fingernails. The deeper cuts in the door were from hacking at it with his sword. The forest monster that possesses him doesn’t use spiritual possession, its more like a parasite that controls the host's nervous system. The monster’s main body cannot move so it hunts by sending out smaller bodies to control predatory animals (or people) which bring prey to it. Malik is a surprisingly challenging opponent to fight off when he isn’t being a pussy, so Higara couldn’t fight him without badly injuring him. He and the shepherd end up locking Malik outside of a cabin until he tires himself out and gets too cold. The parasite abandons him thinking its host would die. I’m not sure if Malik is lucky or unlucky for not remembering anything that happened throughout the whole ordeal.

Malik had never seen safety pins before joining the military and was fascinated by how versatile they were. He always keeps at least one on him for emergency lock picking, stringing his fish hooks together, tick and splinter removal, holding fabric/bandages together, or picking dirt out of his nails

A list of Malik and Higara’s belongings that they often keep in their pockets: 1. Malik’s journal is where he keeps all of his recipes and journal entries for venting and self-reflection. It’s covered in stains and is nearly falling apart 2. Malik’s government-issued ID card 3. Cotton flannel cloth used for maintaining weapons 4. Jerky for snacking. He will enjoy any kind at any time of day 5. Herbs that he picks and saves for later, usually pressed in his journal 6. Malik’s knife used mostly for cooking but also suitable for self-defense 7. A deck of playing cards he bought himself for staying entertained on their long trips 8. Extra notebook for spare paper and hiding his porn stash 9. Stamps for sending letters 10. A razor blade he keeps for cutting restraints if his knife is ever taken away. It comes in handy for other things too 11. Keys to his apartment and locker 12. Inkwell for writing. He uses Higara’s feathers for quills 13. Candy 14. Chopsticks 15. Saftey pin 16. Lock picks 17. Hair comb 18. Toothbrush 19. Fishing hooks 20. Seeds and spices for cooking 21. Wooden spoon 22. More herbs 23. Higara’s knife he normally uses for hunting and bushcraft 24. Needle and thread for repairing torn uniforms 25. Higara’s house key 26. Bottle opener 27. Flannel cloth for maintaining his sword 28. Higara’s government-issued ID card that is very worn out 29. Box of mints where he keeps his medication 30. Tinderbox

She accepts every offering

One of the many fish found off the eastern Kolomboran coast which has made its way into emblems, folklore, and art across the continent. The name translates to "iridescent star-eater" because this genus of fish is fabled to jump out of the water at night and pluck stars from the sky. Dunno where that story came from, but they do occasionally jump out to eat birds and flying fish. Sailors believe that seeing one grants you good luck and safe travels.
