Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows:
"In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis.
When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."

New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!'

This is culturally really dangerous. Functioning societies depend on most people mostly following the rules even when they could probably get away with not doing so. That breaks down very fast once a critical mass decide that makes them saps and suckers.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku is now peaking at Category 5 strength and is likely to make landfall on Saipan in the Northern Mariana Islands in about 36 hours.
The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands is a US territory. They're going to need all the help they can get after this storm.

I think especially because the news media has recently demonstrated what "we think the president is incompetent and that he should not be in office" looks like in how they covered Biden post-debate and don't do the same for Trump

Millions of working class voters: Lose my health insurance, lose my local hospital, lose my elderly parent's nursing home, lose my kids' daycare, and get a foreign war that leaves a lot of people dead plus makes my cost of living more expensive? Yes, thank you, this is what I want.

It's hard not to think of Paxton's definition of fascism when considering the extent to which the federal government under Trump has been reduced to a) a rogue murder state outside the nation's boundaries and b) a rogue, ethnic cleansing/mass deportation operation *inside* the nation's boundaries.

Treasury Announces President Donald J. Trump’s Signature to Appear on Future U.S. Paper Currency
WASHINGTON – In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future U.S. paper currency along with the Secretary of the Treasury, marking the first time in history for a sitting president.“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and fiscal strength and stability,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial.”“As the 250th anniversary of our great nation approaches, American currency will continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people under President Trump’s leadership,” said Treasurer Brandon Beach. “The President’s mark on history as the architect of America’s Golden Age economic revival is undeniable. Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved.”###

Treasury Announces President Donald J. Trump’s Signature to Appear on Future U.S. Paper Currency
March 26, 2026
WASHINGTON – In honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States of America, President Donald J. Trump’s signature will appear on future U.S. paper currency along with the Secretary of the Treasury, marking the first time in history for a sitting president.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance, and fiscal strength and stability,” said Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent. “There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial.”
“As the 250th anniversary of our great nation approaches, American currency will continue to stand as a symbol of prosperity, strength, and the unshakable spirit of the American people under President Trump’s leadership,” said Treasurer Brandon Beach. “The President’s mark on history as the architect of America’s Golden Age economic revival is undeniable. Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved.”
And the Treasury Dept's announcement says it's in honor of the country's 250th birthday because “The President’s mark on history as the architect of America’s Golden Age economic revival is undeniable. Printing his signature on the American currency is not only appropriate, but also well deserved.”

I don't think people fully appreciate how apocalyptic things are for US science. I haven't had any new funding since 2024, but I'm still ok since typical grants are for three years. This means next year I will be completely out of funding and will have to fire everyone in the lab. It's not great.
