The idea that a student op-ed was deemed a threat to national security … a nation run by incompetent and fearful snowflakes

The world class medical center at the American University of Beirut, my alma mater, has been treating many of the children wounded in last week’s assault on Beirut. My family and I donated to the emergency fund here if you would like to do so as well. www.aub.edu.lb/advancement/...
I predicted this week that ending U.S. military support to the IDF (currently ~$3.8 billion annually) would be the official position of the Democratic Party within 10 years and think I probably overestimated the time required by as many as 9.5 years. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
It’s been wild to read the News side of the Wall Street Journal alongside the Opinion side during this war. These people are watching two different wars.
Another one for the ages.
The ceasefire and negotiations mark the beginning of the end of the war. I spent a little time thinking about what will have changed when the shooting finally stops. www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...
I’m increasingly of the view that anyone who wants to opine on the Middle East needs to do a three-month internship at Exxon or Aramco as part of their training.
Look at the picture of this guy. This was back before the days of weight-lifting and creatine. What a unit! www.stripes.com/veterans/202...
An all-timer.

There’s a lot of stuff going on here, but this lady is almost certainly going to jail, and I have no idea who would ever talk to this journalist. Sounds like he has completely burned his source. www.wsls.com/news/nationa...
A fun thing to do is to read the News part of the Wall Street Journal alongside the Edit side. The former tells the business world what it needs to hear, and the latter tells the business world what it wants to hear. Currently side by side: www.wsj.com/us-news/law/... & www.wsj.com/opinion/abou...
“Mr. Buria told Mr. Driscoll that President Trump would not want to stand next to a Black female officer at military events, the officials said.” www.nytimes.com/2026/03/27/u...
This, from eight years ago, by Jake Sullivan, ended up being very prescient and correct. www.theatlantic.com/internationa...
That was the war in which wife died. It’s lower down in the letter.
Put Iran aside. Calling the war to defeat the Islamic State — a war carried out by an 87-nation coalition! — a war “manufactured by Israel” is some wild stuff, and progressives should avoid cheering this rift on. This is a harbinger of anti-liberal, anti-Semitic, right-wing rhetoric to come.
Everyone will be quick to point out how Vietnam ended, but my favorite part of this is about how our military is somehow “leashed” under Pete Hegseth. Which just goes to show how there will always be some idiot finance bro in NYC claiming we’re fighting wars with one hand tied behind our backs.
I see the Wall Street Journal is blaming the Biden Administration for releasing oil from the SPR in 2021 when prices were high, but I would have thought the self-described journal of Wall Street would recognize a good trade when it sees one!
This administration makes a lot of head-scratching decisions, but the non-decision to replenish the strategic oil reserve while prices were in the low $60s is one of the head-scratchingest when you think about who is in leadership positions on energy.
I firmly believe we need to close the borders — but only to this specific German man. He is a menace. gothamist.com/food/theres-...
The New York Times, with supporting testimony today from the Secretary of State himself, reports that Israel dragged the United States into war with Iran. This is … not great. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/02/u...

Short answer: I don’t know.
Longer answer: The Kuwaitis have a lot of Patriot batteries, so that is my assumption.
Not saying he should fire the Secretary of Labor, but I will say that this would be a really good time to do so and have no one notice. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/02/u...
As someone once responsible for improving the integrated air and missile defenses of our Arab Gulf partners, I want to congratulate the Kuwaitis on their, um, uh, unprecedented success in this regard.
I was in Nashville for a funeral yesterday and caught up with my best friend over drinks before heading to the airport. Saw a guy walk into the bar at 2:15pm, open a bottle of Pedialyte he brought with him, and start chugging it alongside his alcohol. Next level stuff going on in Middle Tennessee.
If you’ve been following this ecological disaster taking place in the Potomac River, and the politics of it, I should probably tell you that my wife is to sewage mishaps what John Madden was to NFL games. podcast.publichealth.jhu.edu/1012-a-giant...
Best of luck to any Republicans running for office in Michigan this year. This is one of the most unbelievable stories of corruption I have read since that last story about corruption from last week. www.nytimes.com/2026/02/10/w...
I can, sadly, understand a business case for the Washington Post dropping its Metro, World, and Sports coverage and doubling down on political and regulatory journalism. Can’t understand what was more important for Will Lewis to do today than attend that meeting, though. Just POS leadership.
