My favorite is when some people call you a communist and some a libertarian corporate bootlicker because you want less exclusionary zoning, occasionally the same people saying both at once.

Strangers making wild assumptions about your politics for disagreeing with them is not limited to Bluesky
Once again. These people do not want freedom of speech, they want the freedom to monolog without criticism.
They're going to end the freedom of speech of students to protest bigoted speakers they disagree with.
This reads like a parody, but nope it's a real LinkedIn post
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
*slams head repeatedly into desk*
Just here to second all of this
one reason we @ggwash.org endorsed Drew Morrison for County Council is bc he rents and wants to buy a home in the place where he grew up. that’s something a lot of people in MoCo struggle with—and Drew supports the policy changes needed to give them more options. ggwash.org/view/102768/...
Well said
Kudos to @bannermoco.bsky.social for covering this important story that media rarely bother to report after intensely promoting the opposite news.
I’m also a middle aged white guy who wears crummy t-shirts and jeans and is pretty big so like, experiences vary and I get that too
I’m still more mad at John McCarthy basically lol
lol no I figured.
And look I don’t want to be too harsh on them, there has been real improvement and part of a captain’s role is public messaging, and there are some people that feel that way. He’s in a tough spot.
But yeah I groaned a little
Yes, yes I am capable of holding grudges
Yeah that was… a bit much. It’s definitely gotten better since then but it was never as dangerous as all that.
People also often say it was “better in DTSS 10 years ago” no matter what time frame you are talking about so it is what it is.
Much like I think it was silly for state’s attorney John McCarthy to call DTSS an “open air drug market” years ago, (yes I’m still mad) yes I am rolling my eyes a bit at some of the over the top claims about how dangerous it was a few years ago, but I have my biases. It is what it is.
This is a solid piece, and the things it highlights as helpful (late night bill, drone as first responder, etc.) were indeed helpful, which I say as someone initially skeptical of both till I learned more.
DTSS’s crime issues are often overblown to be clear, but the progress is real
A lot more people need to feel ashamed and change their terrible, hateful bullshit. It’s my most lingeringly catholic believe
this is just a warmed over david duke speech from 1990

McGinty’s has been a constant for me for a long time. Working at the Fillmore until the COVID shutdown, they’d welcome us after shows. Friends have had birthdays and fundraisers here, and now friends and I do game night once a month. Even if you can’t make it today, highly recommend stopping by.

"passport bros" are not at all new and they are not "frustrated with modern dating" they just want women who are completely subservient to them and have zero power in their own lives
As much as I get all up in my housing bullshit this is probably the most helpful take I have if you have an anxious mind.
And let’s face it, you’re on social media right now so…. *whistles*… yeah
I hope this makes at least some sense but basically, it’s fine to be frustrated at your brain if it does the kind of shit mine does, it can suck, but it’s part of a package deal I’m actually quite happy with and allowing yourself to feel the way you feel without dwelling on it can go a long way
A quick “why do I feel this way? Okay, how likely is it that unlike all the other times *this* time I won’t get through it? Okay fine, but what if…”
And just like, don’t actively search for “what ifs”, you’ll drive yourself nuts. Anticipation is (almost) always the worst part.
Don’t turn every possibility over and over again in your head, you won’t make yourself feel better, but don’t try to white knuckle ignore things either, acknowledge what you are feeling, and just try to… process it and let it pass, don’t try to “grab it back” when it starts to be less front of mind
In any event I know how frustrating it is to be “why do I feel like this” when it’s a nebulous thing you can’t put your finger on, and nothing makes it not suck, but if any of this is ringing true to you might I suggest a helpful tip from my very good (and very fairly compensated, oof) therapist
I think a lot of people get in these loops to some degree, especially with how the world is right now, but if any of this is *really* hitting home for you, you…uh, you might want to read this bsky.app/profile/moco...
… since I know I “should” stop worrying and overthinking shit and still can’t totally do it.
Still I have my coping mechanisms to take the edge off, and can sorta tell myself “hey, I know you think all this stuff will happen, and you think that’s true, but you’re wrong” and it weirdly helps
