The news is now public: "A majority of academics in the Faculty of Science have joined the Association of McGill Professors of Science."

A great piece from @titocurtis.bsky.social at @therovermedia.bsky.social on union busting at McGill:

Anti-"woke" politicians:
Before they're in charge: "Those woke professors are purging their syllabi of white European men!"
When they're in charge: "You are forbidden from teaching Plato."
Fascist dog whistle? It could be, sir.
Fascist dog whistle? It could be, sir.
Kristi Noem's one question she answered straightforwardly in her 20 min interview with Jake Tapper says it all.
Tapper: "Is that Agent Ross's voice calling Renee Good a f*cking b*tch?"
Noem: "I can't determine which one it is, but it could be, sir." [SMIRKS]
Fascist dog whistle? It could be, sir.
I think a lot of universities benefit from the opacity, sadly.
"You don't need to worry about being shot by ICE if you don't break the law": a fascist talking point. Authoritarians always say obedience = safety, while changing law until all dissent is criminal. Shifts responsibility from abusive agents onto victims, training us to accept brutality as deserved.
My class leans in hard to radical critical conceptions of psychopathology assessment and diagnosis. Your article will be read the same week as this one from Mad in America: www.madinamerica.com/2026/01/psyc...
Students badly need "real talk" in re to "all the things," and yet this rarely is formally given. I've found gaslighting to be pretty widespread. But they also need to see themselves as advocates and creators in a world that does not simply provide for them on a platter. And ideas/inspo to do so.
It's on my syllabus for graduate seminar in Assessment and Diagnosis this term
There was a recent spotlight in McGill's student newspaper (Tribune) about my team's article in American Psychologist about "multiple relationships" in psychotherapy.

A fifth faculty at McGill has submitted their union cards for certification!
Welcome to the newest McGill academic union, the Association of McGill Library Academic Staff (AMLAS)!
If you had a conspiracy theory that #McGill executives hate the McGill community and are excited by every possible way to make them suffer: their communicating last minute that Convocation will be in a smelly gym and limited to two family members (at $25 each) would fit with that theory.
"Publication trends for qualitative inquiry in American Psychological Association and Association for Psychological Science journals" This study examined contemporary publishing patterns for qualitative inquiry in APA and APS journals. psycnet.apa.org/doi/10.1037/...
Hot off the press (see thread for some figures)
Meanwhile, McGill's executives have sky-high salaries and pensions. Can you see why they are union busters? But the times they are a-changin'.
For COL-adj. salary and benefits, @mcgill.ca is perhaps THE worst major Canadian univ. for Assoc. Profs, Asst. Profs, and Faculty Lecturers, to work at. (It is just OK for Full Profs.) MAUT's recent report is devastating and ought to spur more faculties to unionize. drive.google.com/file/d/1Z1kv...
Yes, the tendency for universities is to have an "excuse" to make the cuts they wanted to make anyway. Many will jump on any reason to do so. Note that they never make cuts to top executive salaries/benefits.
I've said this many times before. Conservative reactions to "wokism" in the name of academic freedom are rarely principled.
"Oceania was at war with Eurasia: therefore Oceania had always been at war with Eurasia."
We're on Bluesky now! We are the union representing the full-time academic staff in the Faculty of Education at McGill University.
Canada should totally jump at this opportunity.
Better late than never to boycott Airbnb, easily one of the most evil and destructive companies on the planet even if some liberals have willfully ignored this.
