You paying attention, @albomp.bsky.social & @jimchalmers.bsky.social. Many get it, do you? Will you act for Australians or international investors?

Susan McDonald telling Ken Henry that the gas industry has enabled parents "to send their kids to boarding school"
The Senator for the Gas Industry really has worked hard today

This! The only helpful take I’ve seen in the media so far. Some should be ashamed at their behaviour.
Susan McDonald went on to ask Dr Denniss if he is trying to kill off the fossil fuel industry.
Denniss “No, I want to milk it!”💥
The Australian Mammal Society is pleased to announce a new Award - in honour of mammal and wildlife champion Barbara Triggs.
The Bruno (Barbara Triggs) Award is named after one of Barbara's much loved Wombats - read more here: australianmammals.org.au/awards/thebr...
Rose Jackson NSW Water Minister says they're avoiding paying reparations to one inundated farm (while everyone else on the wetlands is gagging for a decent flow) they're trying to keep the water flows within the river banks. That's right. They think that flows to a wetland should be kept in river 🤦♀️
Letting one person's 'concerns' prevent a life-saving release of environmental water for wildlife, including turtles, is truly fucked up, and those responsible should all be ashamed.

Dr Richard Denniss dismantles the gas industry’s favorite threat.
If taxes kill investment, why is the gas industry rushing to Norway to pay 78%? 🙄
“They are playing us for fools.” 🔥
Nationals’ Susan McDonald has no rebuttal & scrambles to change the subject. #auspol

Say one word about turtle eggs being eaten by foxes and there is tons of support for fixing the problem.
But you can lose even a whole year's worth (maybe a decade) of eggs, and not come close to the impact that losing a few females has on a population's stability, let alone a whole wetland.
There's only one reality I care about when it comes to this horrific invasive plant. Plenty of other pasture species for introduced ungulates to eat.

How woud Guardian readers prefer the world to end? I asked them... www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
The answer is clearly YES. It should have happened years ago. This invasive plant is an environmental and cultural disaster, and we should throw as many resources as possible towards its suppression or, where possible, eradication.

You're hearing it more and more... it's time to tax gas exports!
More than 50 community organisations, including ACOSS and Oxfam, are calling for a 25% export tax.
Australians are fed up with the gas industry not paying its fair share.

This is an opportunity for bold generational reform, not tinkering around the edges.
Momentum is growing for significant tax reform in the May budget.
Dozens of groups are today calling for a tax on gas exports of at least 25% - a move that would raise $17 billion each year.
But apparently, there's not enough money for increased pay/funding for teachers, nurses, carers, education, science and research, environment and conservation, the arts...is that right, @albomp.bsky.social @jimchalmers.bsky.social? We see you.

“These deaths are incomprehensible, given there is environmental water sitting in the dam. This could save the turtles, but WaterNSW is just not allowing its release,"

And I really wish many in the conservation community would stop pretending so.
Yeah she seems to have little concern for others with the impacts of some of her 'stories'.
Honestly, the idea that the market that has utterly pummeled the environment is now going to magically be its saviour, is equal parts idiotic and insulting.
Many governments, including Australia, can and should massively increase environmental and conservation spending, it's an *investment*.
Whatever caused Elijah Hollands' episode last Thursday night, the speculation about _why_ from some in the media, including Caroline Wilson, is so distasteful and unhelpful.
What is this mechanism Labor & Big Business keep attributing emissions reductions magic to❓
The complexity of the Safeguard Mechanism discourages public engagement & scrutiny
Thankfully, Tim Baxter's come to the rescue with the ultimate guide to the dastardly mechanism❗
As we approach release of the Federal budget, periodic reminder that Australia can fund public goods like nature protection & conservation from public funds
