these are hand-curated rules: it will not block everything, but it also won't incorrectly remove useful features.
i've separated the interactive chatbots and AI summaries into separate lists, since IK some ppl hate AI chat but still want product summaries.

is anyone interested in beta-testing AI blockers for me? these are filters to mass remove AI widgets, etc. from sites. no more chatbots, no more "Ask AI" widgets, no more AI answers or summaries.

after much deliberation and giving AI the benefit of the doubt, Wikipedia editors have had enough of AI slop. New policy bans LLM generated content, periodt www.404media.co/wikipedia-ba...
just this week:
-- OpenAI killed Sora
-- Disney subsequently cancelled its investment in OpenAI
-- Wikipedia is now banning LLM-generated content
...tell me again how this is all "inevitable" and you have to "get on board or get left behind"?

my predorders came in :D i can't believe there's only 1 volume left of "a curtain call for you" left though
If you don't want gen AI in your manga, anime, game, and light novel translations, now is the time to make your voice heard. Write to your favorite publishers and developers and ask if they are incorporating LLMs into their process. And most importantly, tell them you will vote with your dollars.

If you feel that use of AI art assets at any stage of the process is an automatic out, but ChatGPT translations are fine if they're "checked" by people, it might be worth asking yourself why that is. Because it sounds a whole lot like valuing the work of translators less than other creatives to me.
Like I really don’t think people appreciate how much work you need to find every year as a freelance TL to make anything resembling a livable wage with the rates where they are rn. To hit the median US income on pretty typical manga rates you’d have to get about *50 volumes* a year
I think I found where the 6 months claim comes from, and it's not just for TL... but they are still completely misunderstanding the process and thinking we spend WAY more time TLing (8 weeks?!) and deciding terminology/etc (4 weeks?!) than we actually do. Do they actually talk to any translators?
i feel awful for all of seven seas' editors and contractors
anything seven seas says about how it will be business as usual can be ignored, because media do will be making the decisions, not them
media do, both as quoted in the nikkei article and on their investor relations page, has clearly said they will use AI for translation.
media do's investor relations page specifically mentions using AI for translation so :'(

Update 2, 3/1/2026: Documents released on Media Do's Investor Relations website shed more light on the acquisition—including their full ownership of Seven Seas, company finances, and their future use of AI for Japanese manga.
Update, 3/1/2026: Seven Seas has shared a statement regarding the acquisition by Media Do. However they have not addressed the original Nikkei article that states Media Do will be using AI translations for future Seven Seas manga. We'll continue updating as details emerge.
I strongly encourage anyone against AI translations to contact both companies directly:

I'm not sure if it'll actually change anything, but we can at least make it clear how many customers they'll lose if they use AI.
MTPE: More Time-consuming; Paycuts for Everyone
By which I naturally mean: fuck "AI", fuck capitalism, fuck Media Do's business plans
I think we should take our time translating 🤷🏻♂️ More time than we have been expected to take, more time than we even think it should take.
why should manga fans pay money they don't have for shitty AI-translated manga when they can make their own shitty AI-translations for free?
make it make sense?
like, even if you're a soulless corporation who doesn't care about people, surely you see how this is going to lose you money...
