Charging select groups more for health services is not the way to build a health system Canadians are proud of. That’s why the CMA is challenging the Federal government’s decision to charge refugees an extra 30% for essential health care services.

“Advocacy can happen in quiet, vulnerable moments. The whispered advice, the quiet nods of achievement. It’s about celebrating wins together and standing alongside each other through losses.”

The CMA is calling on the Federal government to reconsider a movement to charge co-payments to refugees under the Interim Federal Health Program. Not only would this decision add more strain to our system, but it also defies the values of inclusive, quality care.

Today I was at the @broadbent.bsky.social Progress Summit, speaking with Dr. Danyaal Raza about the future of Medicare in Canada. Fairness and trust are fundamental to a universal health care system, yet these values aren't holding true. We must remember that access to health is a basic human right.

Encouraging to see @evansolomon.bsky.social and the government examining OpenAI's connection to the Tumbler Ridge shooting. Online platforms play an important role in public safety. It's time to pass online harms legislation that clearly defines tech companies' responsibilities.
