I understood that I needed a reliable place for my content. That's why I made a personal website. By the way it's made with Rust/Dioxus.
I promise to fix typos and make UI better.

My infinite terrain generator in Godot. It might lack some complex terrain generation features, but so far it works and looks good. A little bit of multithreading, PBR-materials, stochastic texturing to fight texture tiling and, of course, AMD GPU driver timeout (sometimes it crashes my PC).

In addition, their community is way smaller, documentation is worse. It’s difficult to say, what this engine can offer for now.

P.S. I also built Open 3D Engine. It’s one more open-source project with relatively interesting story. It’s built “on top” of CryEngine, but it’s difficult to say how many features were cut from this project before releasing to open-source.

It’s always possible to switch to Unity/UE. I think after experience with an open-source game engine, it’s easier to appreciate what big commercial engines can offer.

So yeah, we are so close to duopoly and it sucks. I think it’s a good idea to try an engine, that’s definitely less feature-rich, but open-source, like Godot. I want to see what this engine is capable of, as well as understand the pace of developing indie project.

These technologies are great, especially in UHD (4K), but it seems like a lot of companies test their games with TAA, forgetting about people who prefer and can afford “real” pixels.

As for UE, it’s great. It’s so great, that it gets frightening even. Numerous companies abandon their engines in favor of UE. While games in this engine might look realistic gorgeous cute etc, I have concerns about their performance and reliance on Temporal Anti-Aliasing (TAA).

When it comes to Unity, I feel a little bit concerned about their monetization model. As far as I understand it can be pricier than UE. In addition, we all remember about their attempt to change their terms in September 2023.

I’ve officially decided to try Godot. This is an open-source game engine for those who didn’t know.
Yes, I don’t have extensive experience in Unity and Unreal Engine (UE). I’m sure these two engines are great to work with and their communities make their usage even more appealing idea.
