I think one of the biggest mistakes in media/fandom/whatever is when people decided that big emotions and sincere drama were cringe or bad or "anime" or whatever. I feel like we've gotten through the irony era that followed but we haven't yet fully recovered what we lost in the process.

Cyber Sleuth is weird because I really like all the systems in play when it comes to creating, evolving, devolving, and powering up your Digimon. It's super unique.

But then the combat is super dull. Might kick it up to Hard but even then the combat mechanics themselves aren't that deep.

Oh wow the side quests in Cyber Sleuth are actually garbage. Run through the same areas ten times over looking for a tiny little shiny item added to them. And you can only accept one at a time? Might actually just... not do these?

This had to be improved in the later games, right?

But the problem with that of course is when I evolve my cute little plant digimon and it becomes the ugliest sunflower possible and it's like... alright time for you to go hang out in the farm until I can evolve you again and get out of THIS.

Picked Digimon Cyber Sleuth back up after playing a few hours ten years ago and I have two thoughts.

1. This was a really coincidental choice of game to play as a break between .hack volumes.

2. Not being familiar with Digimon post-Adventure makes it fun because I have no idea what I'll get.

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. I got used to the pop-in but it's always a problem. Meanwhile if you actually got rid of it then the world is filled with such garbage it looks way uglier to see it all. lol

Probably ultimately better to just get rid of it though.
