Whenever people claim archaeology isn't inherently political, some questions to ask them:
Who "owns" heritage?
What gets protected and why?
What stories are being told/preserved?
Whom do those stories serve?
Who gets to tell those stories?
Who controls access to the belongings and stories and why?

Q - How do I get myself onto relevant ancient history lists?
Inviting all the classicists, archaeologists and historians who care about Palestinian colleagues/students/heritage to donate a little something to @gmandreou.bsky.social's fundraiser for Gazan students in archaeology and history: everydayorientalism.wordpress.com/2025/05/19/h...
It is WILD that there’s now been a threat of withholding jobs made by a highly known and well regarded scholar on the List, based on support for *discussing* the use of cultural heritage as a marker of ethnic cleansing mentioned in a UN report.

I've been thinking about how to teach my students about historical bias in historical accounts and interpretations of them, and the concept of epistemicide with regard to conquered and colonized people. Sally's talk gave me some great ideas!
So glad!! It’s a difficult thing to unpick, but rewarding once we have the tools to do it! Thanks so much 🥰
