Just back from a trip to meet the British and Chinese Government in Beijing. One random thing both I and a colleague noticed was that people in Beijing seemed pretty/very happy. Perhaps an unusual reflection but the UK doesn't feel very happy. Ok I only saw Beijing so it won't be representative...
When I present on the dementia and spending work we did, I emphasize the need for us all to look out for each other and help when we see people who need support. There might be some tech solutions but us all simply looking out for people struggling would drive much more impact.
I wonder if the reasons robots/ai/drugs get attention because they promise an easy answer to a complicated (and human) problem. I'm not sure why we fail on the impact of the relational.
I really like the FT's coverage of demography/ageing. They are leading the way with solid analysis and recognition of the impact of ageing. But boy - they really do love writing about their toys/robots (we've seen 25 years of writing on why tech will save us from ageing)
Much more important that #thisgirlcan which as far as I can see, hasn't actually led to significant increases in female participation in sports. A few posters might help move a social norm. But you need much more.

Although rich pensioners shouldn't get the winter fuel payment. Amazing not a single senior mp was willing to say this. They should have just taxed it.
Interesting FT story on the Italy referendum on citizenship. Italy is ageing rapidly and faces significant economic challenges from ageing - it has failed to adapt. Migration wont be the solution (alone) but it has a role to play on.ft.com/4dIv7KW

www.agcc.co.uk/news-article... Interesting framing here. I'd argue that historically some older people have been told to expect some aches and pains (ageism). We need better medication and more innovation. Yes CBT/Apps/AI too. Pain is arguably the big quality of life issue as we age.
The terms of reference for the Casey #socialcare commission are published today (though staff have been working for a while). There are concerns, particularly timing, but they should offer the scope Baroness Casey needs to do a thorough job. Thread below ⬇️ www.gov.uk/government/p...
State pension age starts rising again in April 2026. Most people in their early 60s know their state pension age, but a significant minority are incorrect or unaware.
This is worrying as people may base retirement and saving decisions on incorrect information. Short thread👇
Thanks to @sinclairda.bsky.social & all at @ilcuk.bsky.social for hosting such an engaging dinner discussion on how AI might inform happier, healthier lives for us all. More cross disciplinary discussions of this kind are vital to define what an equitable AI enabled future looks like for us all.
WE ARE GOING UP 😍
