Philosophers who assess grad school/PhD applications: do you care whether applicants have publications? Does it weigh strongly in their favour, carry no weight, or even weigh against?
(you may wish to distinguish *any* pub from a *good* pub, whatever you take the latter to mean)

Congratulations to our winner of the 2024 Napier Medal: Dr Louise Loyant - a fantastic talk on her PhD research investigating inhibitory control across macaque species. #PSGBBristol
Congratulations to Maanasa
on successfully passing her PhD defense! Dr. Maanasa
is now heading on a new adventure as a postdoc. I wish her the best.
PhD vivas drive me nuts. They are so unevenly done in this country. It comes down to the personality of the examiners as much as the quality of the research.
You might get someone looking to put you in your place. And you might get someone who lets problems through unchalleged.
Oh, need to withdraw from my PhD program which was employer funded tomorrow. Which, honestly, is a relief. I will find something that still generates a bit of excitement for me. No fault of the program. It 'fit the criteria' for work funding, which is really not the way to pick your PhD.
2011: Colombian kid dreams of being a surgeon
2024: PhD Bioengineering, from fighting superbugs to engineering microalgae to synthetic genomes
8 years, 3 degrees, 3 continents, 4 amazing mentors, countless experiments later.
From Colombia to Saudi Arabia to the United Kingdom.

When I was failed for my #phd, I wonder why there was no system to check.
If someone fails to reach the expected level, surely it should trigger review by a third party? Or some investigating into guidance given should be made?

Waiting for acceptances or rejections for funding has to be my least favourite PhD/academia experience.

A group of 13 people crowded around a table with food and drink on it. They are in a cosily lit pub and everyone is smiling.
Not to be out-done by the staff, our PhD students organised their own festive meal last night 🎄
We hope everyone else's colleagues are similarly brightening the dark days ✨🕯️
Sahar Magen, my first MSc student and first PhD student, defended her thesis today. I could not be prouder! 🥰

Today was my graduation, officially Dr Lizzie.
This PhD thesis just dropped. 🔥🔥
Thrilled to share that I’ve successfully defended my PhD in international law at University Paris Nanterre. My research delves into the tension between counter-terrorism financing measures and safeguarding principled humanitarian aid, with a focus on the Sahel.
Photo with my mother. I’m wearing PhD regalia in black and red and wearing a floppy hat.
I’m wearing PhD regalia in black and red and wearing a floppy hat. Smiling but tired.
I’m wearing PhD regalia in black and red and wearing a floppy hat. Goofy. I know it’s a Tudor bonnet.
What a week.
(Waiting for proper photos.)
Thanks to my advisors Kim Wilkins and Skye Doherty.

I just submitted my PhD!! 🎉🎉🎉
Massive thanks to my supervisor dream team @kienzle.bsky.social and @rgwhitman.bsky.social, I loved working on this so much! 😍
Just received something useless in the post:
My degree certificate and graduation pack.
For a degree I didn't work for. That I didn't spend 10.5 years of life orientation myself around.
Congratulations, my arse. #KickInTheTeeth

I got an unconditional offer to study a PhD at Edinburgh. Now to apply for scholarships.

Dr. Donovan-Banfield, PhD has a nice ring to it ✨️🍾
Does anyone know where can i find fully funded PhD programs?
13 years to the day since I was awarded my PhD!

Last week, I had the honor to have a DOC scholarship ceremoniously awarded at the Festive Hall of the @oeaw.bsky.social . I am grateful for being granted this opportunity to conduct more research towards my PhD at @univie.ac.at !
Thanks @letigonzalez.bsky.social for emboldening and supporting me 😊
Proud of Drs. Wright & Mac, the latest PhD graduates of HaPI lab. Dr. Wright's thesis looked at 'Integrating Digital Health & Behaviour Change Following Bariatric Surgery’ & Dr. Mac's thesis was on ‘Understanding QR Code Check-in & Compliance Behaviour in the COVID-19 Pandemic’. Well done to both 🎓🥂
Travel grant (IDEA) deadline coming up for my #HRIconference submission and it's save to say that my baby will support me in style 👀🤖

Just found a near perfect job which I'd be very suitable for.
But it explicitly requires a #PhD.
So, despite having the skills and knowledge, I'm intelligible.
10.5 years working towards a PhD, downgraded at the last minute. Really cuts off various futures.

Including my UG, I've spent 15 years in higher education only to be awarded 2 masters degrees.
It's beyond a joke that you can work within all the guidelines for a #PhD and still be failed after revisions, right?
Like, the system shouldn't let folk get to that.

Hey everyone!
As you’ve seen from my bio, I’m a PhD candidate in forensic anthropology.
I’m hoping to use this account to share some cool and fun stuff about my research and the field in general.
Feel free to ask questions, too! I’ll do my best to answer them 📚📚📚
