Well that was fun. San Jose, Costa Rica at Amon Solar with @frankturner.bsky.social, Dave Hause and Katacombs.

Japan's "Mundane Halloween" costume contest is back!
Each year website DailyPortalZ holds a contest where people dress up as something super duper ordinary.
Here's a thread of some of my favorites from the 2025 contest!

One of the joys of travel for work is being able to squeeze in a few activities around it. Chicago in a couple of weeks so I’m heading to the Evanston Folk Festival. Should be fun.
Just back from a pretty special 10 days kayaking in Svalbard. Lots of polar bears. Mostly water was like a millpond, but a couple of choppy bits. Made it to almost 82 degrees north.

Stephen Wilson Jr rocking Heartland festival!
This is a pretty good analogy. I had a mate in my pub quiz team who always gave very confident answers. Sometimes it was a subject he knew a lot about. Sometimes nothing. Equally confident. Same energy with Gen AI.
Book recommendation for the techies… Afzal Mangal’s book about IoT and why we should still be talking about it, is a great read

Making good use of the Sing Us Home festival merch up in the Appalachians
Great set!
Mores snaps
What a great day at Sing Us Home with Dave Hause and many others.
Just arrived in the US. Stop-over in NYC now, off to San Francisco is the morning for Oracle analyst event, then back over to Philly for Sing Us Home Festival (a mighty fine line up), then a few days Appalachian Trail walking. Slightly challenging packing to go hand luggage only though.
That’s a shame. I used it as my meet up venue in the city for work. Most people loved it. And it had a good range of teas.
‘Twas ever thus. Notting Hill/Portobello Rd same in London. High end stores hook on to the vibe and drive out the thing that created the vibe in the first place. But on the plus side it just moves somewhere else.
Haight-Ashbury in the 80s probably a rather different experience from Fidi in the 2010s!
That takes me back. I lived a stones throw from there in 2013. The tea place was lovely, if it’s still there.
Gerard Way and Joe Rogan are cousins?
And boy do I miss that guy
Subsequently listening to Jason Bonham drumming on Black Country Communion album. So much better.
Were he still alive Dio would be keen on using this for his next album cover
Thought for the day: Why can’t Lars Ulrich regularly drum like he drums in the bridge and solo in One? It’s good. Rest of the song not.
Offered without comment…
Very sad that the Prince Charles Cinema is under threat. I've just signed this petition to save it. Didn’t help much with the 12 Bar or the India Club but there you go.

The term "physical metaverse". Discuss. While doing some research today around video analytics solutions used in various verticals I stumbled across a company referring to this. I think it broke my brain.
