When the dust settles, it’ll be Dune, with Sinners and Oppenheimer as close seconds. These are the only movies I can mention offhand and see half of my students even register as familiar to them. (Barbie and EEAAO will be remembered more as flashes in the pan).

Incredibly random thought, but has Terry Crews ever been the leading role of a movie?
Plese repost & share: "The risks of using generative artificial intelligence to educate children and teens currently overshadow the benefits, according to a new study by the Brookings Institution's Center for Universal Education."

Much has been made of the performances in Marty Supreme, particularly Chalamet (incendiary) and A’zion (starmaking). But goddamn, Abel Ferrara (yes, the director) is astounding in his small role. Terrifying, and yet quite emotional.
I’m down! 🐥
It’s wild to recognize that in her genes resides the greatest synthesis of 20th century artistic genius.
It’s a great score no doubt, but in a career spanning The Lion King, Gladiator, Interstellar, and Dune (all incredibly diverse, with their major similarity being that they’re *big*), I reject there being any standout best.
Wallach is also the most haunting and memorable part of Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, turning in a three minute masterclass at age 94!!
We’re gonna calm down on that last sentence (but everything else is spot on).
Most recently, Sinners blew me away. All-time: Interstellar in IMAX, LOTR as a child, and strangely, the part in Revenge of the Sith where Yoda bodies two praetorian guards with a flick of the wrist. Crowd absolutely lost it.
On top of the affordability of blu-ray players ($60ish), if you have a PS4 or a PS5 (with a disk drive) congrats, you already have one!
It’s remarkably similar to the AA symbol, and Cregger flat out said in an interview that Gladys is a stand-in for the alcoholism he saw as a child (a parasite that changes parent’s behavior and inverts the dynamic of responsibility)
I think it’s so funny to write, direct, produce, and star in a movie where you just so happen to sleep with both Dakota Johnson and Adria Arjona.
Absolutely love Paolini, the way she plays. She pushed Swiatek. My two favorite players right now.
A great way to understand billionaires is: they’d rather spend much more in donations and kickbacks to an extorting President than they’d ever spend in taxes just to make sure that poor and working class people starve.
Nolan isn’t a conservative. If you’re talking about the DKR thing, I think time has shown how universal “violent demagogue weaponizes class resentment against the elite” is. I would also just watch Oppenheimer, which is about as left as a blockbuster is allowed to be.
Feel the same about Zero Dark Thirty. The politics are abysmal (torture is good!) but the film itself is astounding.
😭
I also lament the collapse of screenwriter Twitter. But also refuse to contribute to Musk’s fascist project. Hoping you’re good, brother! Got some great talent alongside me here, it seems!
In the last few days, we learned that there are minutes erased from Epstein’s prison footage, there’s an unidentified and unaccounted for figure in the footage, the FBI redacted all mention of Trump in the EFs, and Ghislaine is being sent to a low-security prison…DEMOCRATS SHOULD TALK ABOUT THAT
Real One list
Favorite movie by each. Go.
Audio cutting during the diner scene is heresy.
Gonna go out on a limb and say: if you can’t think of questions to ask someone, you shouldn’t be a reporter.
Saw someone out in the wild at a trendy LA hangout spot and, as I was passing them, accidentally glanced at their laptop. It was open to ChatGPT with the prompt: “what questions should I ask *celebrity name*” and it dawned on me. This is an actual fucking reporter.
This is great! I also think of westerns when I think of Dad Movies. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or Tombstone.
I think cheating is bad. I think a society that seeks out retribution and public disgrace of people they don’t know for the sake of clout is worse.
Anisimova played a hell of a tournament to get here, including a win over the #1 in the world, where she looked brilliant. Today wasn’t her day. She’ll be back.
I feel like Javier Bardem just always understands the assignment. Scariest villain of all time? Got it. Comedic friend/acolyte with a shit ton of pathos? Yep. Absolutely broken, confused, depraved entity? Let’s do it.
