I began thinking about writing earlier this month, and now the danger point is here: the first sentence. Now it's too late to go back:
"I weigh fifteen stone in helm and hauberk." [The knight] spoke with mild reason. "I was obliged to steal the royal destrier. No other mount could bear me."

I'm told that the breaking or removing ribs is fable, at least if you're referring to Victorian and Edwardian fashions. Footbinding did involve breaking the bones of the foot -- the toes are folded down under the sole and bound there so they set that way.
Is there anyone here who can muddle along on Old French? I need a phrase, several words. This would be the period of the Chanson de Roland and the troubadours, early Middle Ages.
The dessert of the day is a St
Honore, from the bakery of the same name
My paternal grandmother had her feet bound, so this doesn't startle me.
Snippet: she's asking her 20-ish son to lunch.
“Bivalves? I am so in! You are the best mom – uh, wait. This isn’t going to be ucky, is it? You’re not going to talk about sex.”
“No, I need another pair of eyes.”
“You’re asking me for advice, oh wow! I feel so mature, this is a watershed!”
This is not a free click, but you don't need more than this to see the perfect kickoff to an SF novel. www.oregonlive.com/nation/2026/...

Last night we caught Jesse Welles in concert!

The bit today is from HIS SELACHIAN MAJESTY REQUESTS. Cam is being pressured by his cousins.
“Daddy can’t chart on the top 40,” Lisa said. “Or display killer ass in tight blue jeans.”
Cam sputtered, wordless. Sandy smirked. “You want my personal opinion, David Cassidy’s tush is cuter.”
They do, we were having a get together at another cousin's house!
An anthology coming soon, in which I have a story "Home Is The Sailor."

The snippet of the day is from OFF THE SCREEN, an SF novel due out in one month. It is set 150 years from now, and the characters are talking about musical theater:
"One of those biographical musicals, like Hamilton, or Barack at Harvard, or Evita.”
Many orchids reblooming! I think I have 4 different ones here.
Chinese New Year at the Portland farm market!
This is not the cover of the novel, OFF THE SCREEN. It's the cover of the program of the musical the characters are staging, in a future when live theater has been slain by AI. To write the book I had to create the program (all the actors, numbers, etc) and from there to the program was easy.
It's an adorable pattern, far more fun that just knitting a square. I only hope it doesn't make the baby dizzy!
A blanket knitted for the hospital.
I have to repost this at least twice a year. At this moment they're telling the US military that Armageddon is on the way. So this lays out the Christian thought about end times.

At that instant the sun dimmed like a lamp running out of oil. There was something there on the beach, confronting Tad. He yelled, a wordless shriek of terror, as it loomed before him, taller than a man but smokily transparent. Two fearsome skeletal hands reached and seized Tad by the throat.
This short film has been nominated for an Oscar. It is =hysterical=, and I use that term advisedly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxpj...
