Dear cooking show contestants, can we please retire the "We don't have [x] in [y], I don't know what to do!"

Someone said they dont have many potatoes where they come from. They should be kicked off the show.

Weird priorities. President Trump is illegally withholding $7 billion Congress appropriated for afterschool and summer programs, teacher training and other educational needs. Meanwhile, he’s demanding a trillion in tax breaks for the 1%.

That's not what the American people want.

"Yay" is similar to "hooray" and "yeah" is similar to "yes."

If you think otherwise, I'm curious how it feels to be wrong? I'm not familiar with the experience.

"If what you're doing is legitimate and lawful, why do you need to cover your face?”

9/ lastly- make sure you understand how to engage your leaders. Typically, they can not or will not respond to your statements made in council meetings. It's a one-way conversation.

Make your voice heard so others know you exist. Then, follow up with written questions or open records requests.

8/ I've been a full time or part time cop for 19 years. I love what the field is supposed to be. I do not love what it is. I do not lover decisions or thought processes I had in the past.

7/ Does your community (or state) have policies or laws on officers identifying themselves? How must it be done? If it does not include real identifying information (e.g. badge number only) can that data be cross referenced to ID the real person?

6/ Ask if your community uses any LPR or facial recognition technology with which your community contributes images to a larger database accessible by other agencies?

How much money do these systems cost? Where are they installed? How long is the data retained?

5/ Ask if your community has any agreements with federal agencies to detain persons on their behalf in your detention facilities? How much do your community earn for doing so? How is that money spent?

4/ Ask if any personnel are "task force officers" with federal agencies? If so, which agencies? Encourage them to end these agreements with HSI, CBP, ICE, and USMS, at least.

Ask how much funding or reimbursement they receive from their TFO or cost sharing agreements.

3/ If none, then what standing policies might apply? In many places federal agents have less authority than the local police and rely on them for help. Don't help.

Ask if your community has a 287(g) agreement (and push to end it).

2/ Whether you have a strong mayor or a city manager, there is someone giving guidelines for operations in your city. That includes hiring the Chief of Police.

Ask them (chief, mayor, council, manager) what policies, procedures, or guidance they have provided on supporting ICE actions locally.

Politics starts at the local level. It's the easiest place to have your voice heard and the place where you can stop feeling powerless.

Think what's going on with the feds doesn't have a local connection? Wrong... 🧡 1/

Have yall done any spatial analysis of areas at higher risk/likelihood of gang recruitment or persons vulnerable to being recruited?

Just curious for the ICE/HSI folks out there... you realize you're the bad guys now, right?

Given that there is no civil disorder, insurrection or armed rebellion at present, senior military leaders need to consult with their JAG officers *now* about the potential need to disobey unlawful orders. They should also consult with Democrats on the House and Senate Armed Services Committees.

Because your vote decides who your sheriff is. Want a better one? Vote for them. Progressive law enforcement officials will be more prominent if we support them.

Law enforcement will always exist. But it doesn't need to look like it does today

Spoke to a police chief friend and said you shouldn't let your guys cooperate if requested. His reply was that he'd lose his job.

The focus for upcoming elections should include Sheriffs. Sheriffs can't just get fired. Sadly, in many places only conservatives even run for the position.

Maybe if your entire police force can resign in one day, you shouldn't have a police force. America would do well with some consolidation and professionalization.

I look back on the places I've worked and what kind of Google reviews we might have received. Working for a small company, now I feel like every signal matters a lot and I try and fight to keep them all good.

Anyway - turns out it's hard to read hospital reviews when you're about to pass out.

Today we had a mini-seminar with Joel Caplan & Les Kennedy who started the Risk Terrain Modeling concept a while back.
We presented some new takes on RTM for them - using graph based methods for crime prediction and testing open streetmap data.
Was fun! & Got great feedback from Joel & Les too.
