@thecroftonshow.bsky.social can you recommend a poetry newbie some poetry books or any other poetry resources (other than your poetry window).

I just got a podcast ad that described a TV ad and then told me to go online and watch the ad. I wonder how many people actually go watch after that. #ads #latestagecapitalism

Any one have any advice for starting a blog with limited time if I want to write about stuff I would also have to deep dive on to some extent? #science #blog #research

Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center The Udvar-Hazy Center displays thousands of aviation and space artifacts, including the Space Shuttle Discovery and a Concorde, in two large hangars.

@milesofgray.bsky.social if you’re going to an errand space museum just to see planes and stuff. Make sure you go to the Chantilly museum and not the DC one. airandspace.si.edu/visit/udvar-...

I’m sure someone has talked about these things before but it feel more pervasive recently. Tech can be cool but the biggest media boosted tech is mostly just isolating. I’d be curious of your thoughts.

Previously though Uber replaced asking people for rides, food delivery apps replaced asking a neighbor for a cup of sugar, rover replaced asking neighbors to check on your dog. The goal feels like it’s isolation even socially media is more of an isolation machine than a connection machine now.

@edzitron.com Something I thought of while hearing an ad for Malcom Gladwell’s AI podcast. AI feels like it’s also following a trend that so much boosted tech has which is to isolate us. AI is like the worst iteration too since it’s boosted as replacing so much human interaction in some spheres.

I had Covid again 2 months ago. It still fucking sucked. Also sucked that my new borne got it. He’s okay but that also sucked. Even before RFK he was too young to have had a vaccine for it. Be safe people.

If you haven’t done it in a while it’s probably a good idea to restart your phone. #privacy #security

@ublockorigin@lemmy.ml being available on IPhone is great. Everyone should have ad blockers and try to protect what little #privacy

Moving somewhere new. What are the best little things to do to make things a little better right away for everyone. I know meet neighbors. Any other simple things?

The construction next to the funeral home I drive by next day has turned out to be an assisted living facility. I wonder if your a discount on transportation if you just need to be moved next door. #frugal ☠️☠️☠️

I know personally doing things for the environment doesn’t make a true impact. It’s still nice in the hyper local sense and I also hope giving and example and talking to others creates some 2nd or 3rd order effects that actually matter. I guess it might be like 5th or 6th order effects.

The two extreme view points about AI that I get regualrly are from @theskepticsguide.bsky.social and @edzitron.com. I think it would be interesting for them to talk to each other. Especially since they probably agree on a it of other things.

There are coops in NYC and they seem to work pretty well. I have family in one and it seems great. The building is from the 50s though when trying new housing ideas actually happened and housing was affordable.

What’s the way you listen to music? Albums, playlists, or individual songs? #music

Last time I saw their documentation months ago they had added a bunch of support for letting LLMs do queries for you. Maybe that’s it maybe they added more. They don’t seem like much of an AI database or even a vector database

Neo4J is not really and AI company their main product is a graph database so they probably don’t belong on your list of AI companies at all. So number are even a little worse.

If there was a line charging to 100% would annoy people by taking up a lot of extra time but also it’s probably more time efficient to be moving for 20minutes and charge a little sooner than to wait for 100% unless you need 100% to make it to the next charger. Good luck on your road trip! Good stuff

9 months ago 2 0 0 0

Generally unless you really need 100% charge you should just charge to ~80% and then keep going as you saw it was 20minutes to get from 46% to 80% and then another 21minutes to get to 100%. It charges a lot faster up to 80%

It’s for sure worth the read. It’s not very big either and easy to understand which I guess is the point.

“How to Lie with Statistics” should be required to be taught in school. An adjunct professor I knew used it to teach the statistics for non STEM majors course at my college. I always thought that was the most useful way to treat that course.

It’s crazy when you talk with people who breath LLM even in software engineering. Like I’ve used it and it’s helpful for some things. It’s not magic the way people treat it. I haven’t come across an AGI brained person though. Bubble popping will be interesting.

Can single works make big impacts any more in the current fractured culture? Like The Jungle on meat packing or Silent Spring on chemical pesticides? #environment #climate #books

Is there any point in looking for a climate job in the US in the next 4 years? Asking for a ummm…friend. #climate #greensky #energy

I still go on things like Reddit too much and it’s stressful even my curated feed. Bluesky is a bit too. Mastodon and Pixelfed though are generally more calming. I think just too many voices make things stressful. #fediverse #pixelfed #mastodon #calmer

Pretty similar personal experience most areas I pickup seem consistent ish. My intuition tells me there is probably a cut off where a little bit of trash is the same as none but if there’s a mountain of trash the area will just be treated as a garbage can. Still feels nice to clean up and looks good
