Also, this is not to say I haven’t struggled. I’ve had a LOT of downs with my ups. I’ve almost quit vending and given up on doing digital art at least twice. My ADHD RSD has sabotaged my thoughts far too many times. But I’m also stubborn and honestly y’all have been a huge reason why I keep going

I also finally met someone who thinks my goldship/quattro bajeena is as funny as I do lmao and when I showed her the oguri cap as bright noa eating a hamburger I’ve been working on she was like OH MY GOD THAT’S PERFECT. She’s ALSO a lads/umamusume/gundam nerd so we had a blast

The event was an absolute nightmare fr but it was so cool how much we all kinda came together and were supporting one another in any way we could. We shouldn’t have HAD to do that in the first place, but really is a testament to how much artists just wanna help one another succeed

He came back later and bought all my final fantasy tactics stickers and we nerded out about tactics and final fantasy in general and it was absolutely delightful

Also, one of the artists’ brother was helping out at her booth and he brought his Pomeranian named MJ/MARY JANE AND SHE WAS SUCH AN ANGEL and be came and bought my Pombon tote and I gave him a Pombon sticker cause I knew I would the second I saw MJ.

Omg you would love the folks that were my table neighbors they were so funny and rad.

And that’s like the biggest thing for me, tbh. I get so inspired by the people I meet whether they’re artists, customers, or just people I yap with bc I like their outfit or something. It fosters a spark in me that I haven’t felt in probably a decade or two.

The two people tabling next to me, I don’t know if I would ever have had an opportunity to meet them and now I legitimately want to be their friend and see them outside of tabling! And they do PRESS ON NAILS. I’ve NEVER seen anyone make custom press-on nails in an artist alley

Is this sustainable? Absolutely not. At least, not currently. But even though the event I vended at this past weekend was a nightmare, all the artists kinda trauma-bonded and came together as a little micro-community for 48 hrs lol I met some absolutely amazing people!

And that right there? That’s why I love doing this. I’ve always been good at customer support jobs because I LOVE meeting people and learning about them. You have the most bizarre and unexpected encounters when vending and I’ve come to cherish it as much as creating the art itself

Come to find out she had just lost her baby chi Zeus (he was only like 9mo old 😭) and showed me her fresh lightning bolt tattoo she got in his memory and a photo of him. She was so grief-stricken and thanked me profusely for talking to her, despite her not buying anything or tipping

I talked to this one woman on Saturday who was so sweet. I had a picture of peepers in her rain coat as my tip jar bc Penelope’s surgery in a few weeks is going to cost $3k-$4k and I want to help with that bill as much as I can, despite my meager income. This lady stopped by and asked about her

I’m nowhere near being able to support myself but I know that takes time and a lot of effort. I’ve now vended 7??? events and met some absolutely incredible artists and just people who come by my table! They don’t even have to buy anything!

You know, it’s taken 20ish years but the fact that I’ve been mostly focusing on my own artistic endeavors as of late has been so fulfilling. I always thought it was “too late” to be an artist like I had always meant to as a kid/teen, but I really am so immensely grateful for the opportunity
