Burying the lede a bit here. April rainfall totals are now well above average.
Just one month after one of the driest Marches on record.
Pacifica has now recorded 9.7’’ this month. Castro Valley 7.65’’,Mt. Tam 7.19’’, and S.F. nearly 3’’.

The Bay Area closed out its second multi-day rain event of April today, and the orographic signal was textbook.
West-facing hills: 2.5 to 3.5 inches.
Lee side of the Diablo Range: under half an inch.
And SFO inexplicably at 0.93 inches.

Still some isolated showers lingering in the Bay Area. Mostly over the South Bay.
Trending drier towards the afternoon.
Incoming rain this morning for S.F. Bring an umbrella!
This cell looks nasty as well.
Nasty looking cell just to the east of I-5 near Los Blancos
Tons of lightning with the storm as well.
Tornado warning in Fresno. Impressive supercell!
Convection!
Rain showers will continue on Monday evening, with a potentially heavy burst of rain moving in after midnight. Good for the plants!

Conditions are ripe for an active eastern Pacific hurricane season. Does one of those storms drift into California at some point, à la Hilary in 2023?
Happy earthquake anniversary! 120 years ago. And an uncomfortable reminder that it will happen again.
The water off California is some of the most anomalously warm water in the world. And it's likely to impact our weather this summer in interesting ways.

Yeah, I was wrong about April
A classic backdoor day! I was watching this one from afar in awe
Alan is not claiming this, but I’ll use his post as an opportunity to express my skepticism on the recent claim that the lack of NWS upper air balloon data had lead to worse severe wx forecasts.
That was a mouthful
I loved everything about that #Warriors win! Love watching my guys Horford and Porzingis get it!
#Sinlaku is moving slowly. The eyewall is still sitting on top of Saipan.
The first hot day after a long winter is always fun for people watching. Awkward outfits. Clothes that might have fit 6 months ago, but don’t now.
It’s the best.
It's less about what's happening on the surface of the ocean, but rather in the sub-surface. And the sub-surface of the Pacific is VERY warm right now.
Major Typhoon #Sinlaku on the verge of a direct landfall on Tinian and Saipan. Amazing 106 mph gust in the last hour at Saipan International Airport!
Wrote about how #Sinlaku's intesifty is a warning sign for an impending strong El Nino later this year.
Something to keep an eye on: warm water temps in the Bay. Most stations are running between 60-63 °F. April average is 56.1°F. The warm bay water may have had a hand in enhancing rain intensity on Sat night. Mesovortices formed over the water and dropped big rains in the Oakland hills.
Hark! What's that I see?
Sunshine has returned to the Bay Area 😎
Unfortunately, #Sinlaku hasn’t lost much strength in the last 12 hours. Still a category 5 equivalent storm with wind gusts over 200 mph.
A direct hit for the island of Saipan most likely.
It’s not as cold as expected this morning. But I’m sure it still feels chilly!
Had my eyes on the wrong one. Another severe warned storm north of Chico showing some rotation.
