But my favorite science-related joke on Futurama is EASILY when the ship is being pulled underwater:
Professor: Dear Lord! That's over 150 atmospheres of pressure!
Fry: How many atmospheres can the ship withstand?
Professor: Well, it's a space ship, so I'd say anywhere between zero and one.

There are TOO MANY, but here is a great one:
- "Why is there yogurt in this hat?"
- "I can explain. See it used to be milk, and... well, time makes fools of us all!"
We should never elevate entertainers as philosophers, but damn if there aren't times when it seems proper. Hat tip to Geo and Sabzi, wherever they are. ๐ค๐ป
"And broken antennas with aluminum foil be
Standing on televisions, transmitting propaganda of millionaire senators
And your so-called commander in chief, B
I'm telling you the man is a thief
In his hand he holds a plan to ban your freedom of speech"
"Don't think for a second, I will not question
US foreign policy, imperial aggression
Inventing war for the quenching of the thirst for the oil
Cause money don't trickle down to workers who toil"
Blue Scholars came up on random yesterday and listening to the lyrics of "Blink" is a reminder of both how awesome that duo was and how circular history is living in America: bluescholars.bandcamp.com/track/blink

Washington area board game friends (or those who will travel for a good time): Genius Northwest returns in 2026! The theme: UNCHARTED WATERS. ๐ดโโ ๏ธ
We are now accepting applications for the three-day gaming tournament (inspired by our favorite Korean TV show).
Details are on the website: geniusnw.com

Looks like MLB Advance Media has updated their sales pages to clarify the ways in which "without blackouts" definitely doesn't mean "without blackouts." Nice of them to bring the exceptions to their sales language closer to the surface (after what I can assume was some raw feedback from fans).
To put it in even further perspective โ Lockheed Martin produced both the spacecraft for the Artemis mission and the PRsM missile that shot tungsten pellets into an elementary school in Lamerd.
A layered image of NASA's Artemis II live progress viewer showing the spacecraft near the furthest point in their flight above a screenshot from the Fellowship of the Rings where Samwise says "...it'll be the farthest away from home I've ever been."
I hope the crew of Artemis II timed their obvious movie night pick properly.
I was telling some friends how much it made me cackle. Also that every time I thought the bit was going to get stale, there'd be some incredible gremlin maneuver. Like when Brennan was all โ๐คจ and Katie was like ๐ฅช๐ค and I was ๐โฐ
Star Trek The Search for Spock scene. Our Lord Spock is pictured in a white robe. He stands surrounded by his shipmates who are all older here than they were in the TV show. Sulu is smiling and touching Spock's chest for some reason. Uhura, Chekov, Scotty, and Bones stand close and all seem thrilled to see him, but are otherwise practicing self control and not feeling his chest. Despite being surrounded by friends, Spock is staring only at Kirk, for obvious reasons.
He is risen
Trillions of dollars have been spent to create an artificial workforce composed of the kind of employees who if they were human would probably be fired within a year or two of being hired.
Imagine if that money had been spent getting humanity off fossil fuels instead.
I sincerely appreciate Robinson making this post now that the fictional timeline of Red Mars has begun to run parallel our own. It can be hard to reckon with how sci-fi fuels both real-world ambition and misguided hyperbole, but he does it well.

I'm just now discovering this and it's a bright spot in my day.
Bluesky tweet on Nov 20, 2025: every time a software tool adds an Al feature nobody asked for, a human logs off
In retrospect this is very funny
I think of this like song covers: A note-for-note version of a near-perfect song adds practically nothing to culture. You gotta find something sticky that never achieved its full potential.
I want to make a version of Battle Bull with all the systems, content, and balance it deserves. โฅ๏ธ๐๐ฎ
Because I'm petty and like spreadsheets, I made one to tally up all the service fees you'd ACTUALLY need to pay to watch "EVERY out-of-market game" with MLB.TV or "without blackouts" for team-specific streaming: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...
Sorry, Phillies fans.

Fourth game of 2026 for the Mariners is exclusive on Peacock. Yep! 2 of 4 games so far exclusive to other services; not available on good old "without blackouts" Mariners.TV.
It's a straightforward exchange: Pay money for a promised service and get 50% of that promise + a poke in the eye. ๐บโพ๐๐
Got out to stand with the crowd today. It's encouraging that so many properly understand the times. #nokings

I have been friendly with many people in HR in my years of corporate jobs. The vast majority of them have been nice people, good people, people who like to help. None of that changes a thing: HR as an entity exists for the protection of companies not employees.
Solidarity is worker power.
Looking at the game list, some of these teams have 5% of their season locked out by network exclusives, which is just sad considering the touted triumph over blackout restrictions. Anyway, delighted the Ms won tonight in a game I couldn't watch on Mariners.TV. ๐คทโโ๏ธ #goms ๐ฑโพ
And if you didn't search for "national exclusivities"โwhich you won't find in the FAQ unless you search for "blackouts"โit'll become clear during the second game of the season that a deal with Apple TV+ has minused your Mariners.TV sub. (Hat tip also Netflix and NBC for helping taint a good idea.)
"Subject to National Exclusivities" is the key phrase.
Click through to find a list of exclusions and qualifications that'd make a car warranty salesman blush: support.mlb.com/s/article/ML...
Even that page's author was afraid to link to the full list: support.mlb.com/s/article/Na...
"Subject to National Exclusivities" it says in large letters at the beginning of the fine print. A later link offers a "click here for details about available in-market games."
Right there on the MLB.TV homepage they're ready to sell you not just the MLB.TV package, with it's hobbled-by-marketplace offerings BUT a brand new package: Mariners.TV, which promises "Mariners games without blackouts LIVE for the entire 2026 season." No asterisks! (...until you scroll down.)
Picture of MLB.TV offerings for 2026, including a Mariners.TV update that promises streaming games without blackouts.
MLB streaming is one of the most beautifully crooked consumer products ever. The people who handle this stuff could teach classes in obfuscation. It's particularly amazing how they can simultaneously trumpet solving problems while continuing to cause them with such enthusiasm. It's blackout time!
