As for references, Pronty's Fishy Adventure comes to mind with its underwater world plagued with the depths adapted with humanity's disposal of waste & pollution.

The guardians and the world of Breath of the Wild also helps with a fantasy world that grown and interest with ancient technology.

I may have an idea and some references that may help. A fantasy world that adapted with sci-fi technology & advancement, after all magic in the world was extinguished from an unknown, catastrophic phenomenon.

Can still have fantasy races like dragons, but not fairies, as they are source of magic.
