100% agree-about time we focused on teaching students to read and making students read across the curriculum and forget the ‘love of reading’ nonsense. We can’t make people love things-had this annoying argument 3x with Ofsted!

@daisychristo.bsky.social has there been any interest in comparative judgment from exam boards? Hopefully this will be part of the curriculum and review assessment

@alexjquigley.bsky.social just wondering your thoughts on University of Sussex Fast Reading. Seems like it is same as reciprocal reading but you read the entire text first?

Thank you for clarifying-I think in terms of the recommendations I don’t think that’s the problem with the current GCSEs.

I love your resources but it would be much better if the articles had the option as a PPT/slide to display instead of just PDF.

Do we not do that already?

@englishassociation.bsky.social I’m reading your working group recommendations for GCSE reform. What does this mean in practice: ‘teachers focus on the idea that students are studying literature not texts: that is, we are studying literature by means of specific texts.’

How is the study and development of spoken language in English not oracy? Voice 21 defines oracy as is the ability to articulate ideas, develop understanding and engage with others through spoken language. Genuinely interested in what you mean?

I hope oracy is looked at in English as part of the new curriculum review as the GCSE spoken language endorsement is not fit for purpose
