Kupffer cell plasticity regulates hepatic immunity in mycobacterial infection Kupffer cells (KCs), the prenatally seeded macrophages of the liver, show unique functional and immunophenotypic features among tissue-resident macrophages. They are considered as terminally different...

New in @JHepatology: An excellent paper from our fantastic Jana Neuber’s PhD project. Novel insights into macrophage plasticity in mycobacterial infection. Read it here:

Low-density lipoprotein cholesterol drives multinucleated giant cell formation in response to mycobacterium bovis Bacille Calmette-Guérin - Scientific Reports Macrophages play a central role in tuberculosis, both in bacterial persistence and tissue pathology. Body weight and a dysregulated lipid metabolism profoundly affect disease progression and survival....

Freshly in press from the Henneke lab: LDL cholesterol is required for macrophages to form multinucleated giant cells after BCG exposure. Congrats to Dr. Philipp Merck for an impressive MD thesis! And congrats to the team, so proud to have been part of this.

Sensory neurons shape local macrophage identity via TGF-β signaling Specialized macrophages are known to persist within tissue niches, but the molecular mechanisms guiding their sustained functional adaptation remain unclear. Kolter and Döring et al. show that local interactions between sensory nerves and macrophages activate TGF-β, which imprints and maintains nerve-associated macrophages that contribute to regeneration after tissue injury.

Frontiers | Immunopathogenic and clinical implications of advanced tissue analysis in non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections in children ObjectivesInfections with non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM) in children usually affect the lymph nodes and surrounding tissue. Although the infection is typ...

Excited to share our new paper on pediatric non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lymphadenitis. Using advanced histology we identify patterns associated with favorable outcomes. We hope this helps refine NTM care.

Tissue imprinting defines functional mosaic of dermal macrophages Dermal macrophages (macs) protect the skin from invading pathogens. They are derived from embryonic as well as hematopoietic progenitors. However, the functional impact of their diverse origin and the...

Excited to announce a new preprint from the Henneke Lab:

"Tissue imprinting defines functional mosaic of dermal macrophages"

It explores how dermal macrophages adapt and specialize within their microenvironment during infections. Feedback and discussions welcome!
