I wonder if @miaout.bsky.social & Neil Fitzgerald are burning the midnight oil at the @britishlibrary.bsky.social to get ready for #ff2025?

Can't tell whether I'm at that stage of life where new things often seem outlandish or whether it is actually bizarre that a significant new public policy concern is safeguards on artificial intelligence being thwarted by "adversarial poetry".

A book that reads in block sans serif font, "ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE PROJECTS FOR THE COMMODORE 64." The text is red, switching to gold for the words 'Commodore 64'. Cover bottom, a Commodore 64 - a light brown all-in-one microcomputer with dark brown keys - appears. In the center, a gold PCB in the shape of a human head radiates gold wires in the way wires might radiate from a chip, creating the silhouette of a head; in the center and neck of the head-shaped PCB, chips appear.

I know it's not the coolest thing to bring up and not many people seem to care, but my website is hosted in a local datacenter powered entirely by wind energy and certified under ISO-14001. So my #gameassets are a good choice if you care about the environment 🌲

Children who have not yet lost much of their sense of wonder and fun have helped us to find an ethic about computing: Do not automate the work you are engaged in, only the materials. If you like to draw, do not automate drawing; rather, program your personal computer to give you a new set of paints. If you like to play music, do not build a "player piano"; instead program yourself a new kind of instrument.

Advances in academic video game collections As mass media and entertainment industries continue to undergo rapid change to keep ahead of trends and consumer demands, libraries must evolve and ch…

Video games are an interesting #epherma area for #ac library collection.

Beyond platforms becoming obsolete & dysfunctional w/o server-side maintenance, a lot of current platforms for purchasing games just don't offer a legal option for library ownership and/or preservation.

The problem isn't that we lack evidence. It's is that we've yet to develop the political will to do anything re: radicalization. Politicians benefit from the virality of outrage. Platforms profit from the engagement spikes that anger, fear, & conspiracy generate. So we muddle along while Rome burns.

Why is this the priority when there are so many actual problems for the government to solve?

In our audio-game 𝘉𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘥 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦, we put a large effort in recognizing surface types (grass, bushes, rivers) from sound.

With the help of @rainlefever.bsky.social, our main character Liora now narrates the surface that she walks on!

Amongst all the fun of this it’s, once again, worth pointing out that I couldn’t convince a single university in the UK of the value of this sort of public history work or the benefits of a REF impact case study built around computer games and Lucasfilm. Worth reflecting on for academia I think. 🗃️
