I get that objectively it’s not the work being judged but ultimately without feedback (and I understand that too many people are querying for everyone to get a personal response) it’s hard to avoid resentment. You did what you thought was your best and you don’t even get to know where you messed up

-> being either a form rejection or ghosting, and with most agents understandably not hyped to get requeried over and over with the same unaltered book, it’s functionally the same thing because either way you’re getting no actionable feedback to change the book OR the pitch and you can’t retry it.

Just now catching up and despite my virulent disillusionment with trade publishing and querying, I was on board for the majority of the episode until we got to the part about “it’s not your book getting rejected, it’s your pitch”. Which on one level - sure, fine. But with so much of responses ->

It’s truly inspiring that the current trade publishing format seems to be “find a successful indie book, throw money at the author, then kill all momentum it has by making it unavailable for half a year until you get around to publishing it”.

Fantastic Four: First Steps is at least as good as the new Superman and requires even less prior knowledge to enjoy. Don’t sleep on it, this week 2 box office drop is a travesty for a movie this excellent!
