November 7, 1996 29 years ago @heavenhill had the worst disaster any distillery could have. Extreme winds pushed flames from warehouse to warehouse. In total around 100,000 barrels were lost stored in 7 warehouse. The loss about 15% of all storage capacity at Heaven Hill. Which is equaled 2% of all whisky around the world at the time. All of this devastation was in a 4 hour period. Miraculously not a single bystander or fire fighter were injured. Today we toast with 2 ore fire offerings distilled at Heaven Hill. First is an interesting bottle of Ten High. Owned by Hiram Walker, the brand started in Peoria, Illinois. When the Peoria distillery closed fully in 1987. Hiram Walker then sourced bourbon from Heaven Hill. After the 1996 fire Heaven Hill canceled all sourcing contracts. The sourced bourbon still comes from Bardstown, Kentucky. Just down the road from the Barton Distillery. Our second pour is an official bottling of Heaven Hill from the 1982. When getting into dusty bourbon one must be able to read the tax stamps. Starting in 1977 was the first time the stamps said Bureau of ATF. Moving the words US Internal Revenue . In 1982 the words tax paid were removed for distilled spirit on the bottom of the strip. This bottle has both Bureau of ATF and distilled spirit. Both of the bottles may not blow anyone away with the nose or palate. But it’s tasting history that makes it truly special.

Judge orders receivership for troubled Uncle Nearest whiskey distillery It was unclear what the owner’s role will be in marketing Nearest Green.

Receivership granted with option for Fawn Weaver to continue as face of the brand.

Really wish you could skip more than just 1 shipment per year before being canceled. Other Virginia distilleries are allowing this with their online quarterly clubs.
