Our reflections on a recent project we did about nature for the Singapore Art Museum. It's still on display! If you're in town, do check it out <3

Thank you @reginecabato.bsky.social for talking to us about our work, and @reutersinstitute.bsky.social for this feature! Slow journalism/news takes a more intentional practice in today's changing media landscape. We talk about how @kontinentalist.bsky.social navigates this.
I was also so happy to hangout with friends, and see other awesome projects from SEA get showcased!
💬 If we want to tackle resilience and inspire change, we can't simply sit behind our laptops. We must engage in active conversations with community. Maggie Hughes’s work at the MIT Media Lab and @angela-morelli.bsky.social’s advocacy for co-design in the IPCC papers made that clear.
🧵 I gained new ideas on how to we humanize data. Derya Akbaba's talk centred on care and centering communities using the most accessible materials and playful methods. Anastasiia Balagurova's looked at where numbers meet empathy, and made a resource for techniques and common threads.
✨ I learnt so much about the natural world. @jenchristiansen.com’s lessons from the natural world left me full of admiration for the expanse of nature, and @juusokoponen.bsky.social’s experience visualizing biodiversity loss and climate change emphasised to me that these methods must be localised.
🌯 That's a wrap on my weekend in Helsinki, and first visit to Finland, for VK25: Visualizing Resilience. This conference has been on my radar since last fall, and I was happy for the opportunity to showcase my own personal student showcase.
I haven’t spoken much about the project since I’ve completed it because I felt it wasn’t my place. It’s a collaboration with Orang Laut Singapore, and understanding how their representation isn’t forgotten, but erased. More on the project here: www.lawanlupa.com
Hey Bluesky! 👋🏻 I haven’t been on here much, but let’s see if I can change that.
Today I’m at the Visualizing Knowledge 2025 conference in Helsinki, organised by Aalto University. I’m here to learn and showcase my Masters degree project on Indigenous memories in Singapore ❤️
Thank you so much Cara!!! I’m so glad to have met someone else in Edinburgh and to hear about how we deal with similar challenges at work. Can’t wait to meet you again soon!
Leticia Pozza of Odd Studio and I are on our way to Utrecht today! We’ll be there until the weekend for CEST-LA-VIZ happening this Friday! Get your tickets here if you haven’t done so: cest-la-viz.nl
Also if others are going to the conference too and would like to hang out, please reach out! 🚲

"Modern dataviz practices are largely eurocentric in character and can often be reductivistic. How do we approach data in ways that make sense for Asian concerns and challenge hegemonic ways of experiencing data?"

Who is headed to CEST-LA-VIZ in Utrecht in November? Would be spending some time in the city before and after! Let’s hang out!!
Thanks to @chezvoila.com’s list my Bluesky following has been 📈! I’ll try and be more active from hereon but a quick introduction:
Hi everyone! I’m Peiying from 🇸🇬, and I run a data studio/publication with an explicit Asian centered, decolonial practice. Do check us out! kontinentalist.com
Will be in Sweden these few weeks if anyone here is up for a coffee!
That’s hilarious!!
First post on Bluesky! Very very happy to share that a story I worked on early last year on colonial discrimination and rubber has been shortlisted for the Sigma Data Journalism awards. It’s an honour! www.sigmaawards.org/shortlist-20...
