You could always add lines, but there's always an issue regarding smooth transitions. There are a few ways to represent roundness using line, but they don't work from every angle.

without shadows (and highlights) you lose an essential visual indicator for the shape of 3D objects. In real life, there are no lines, only the contrast between light and dark and that is the primary way you tell the different between shapes.

The reason she looks super wide in the traced photo is because the lines flatten her body into a 2d silhouette. There's no actual distinction between what is the front vs the side of her body.

I obviously don't disagree with the original conclusion, but I think this is a cool learning opportunity for artists about 3D form
