Meanwhile, DPHHS is also considering blocking a 3% provider rate increase that the legislature already approved. Fewer dollars for providers means fewer options for patients.
Medicaid Awareness Month is a good time to pay attention. But these changes won't stop in April.
As of May 2025, 218,000 children and adults were enrolled in Montana Medicaid. Notices about these changes will go out to enrollees this month. Starting July 1, new work reporting requirements take effect — and by December, those who don't meet them could lose coverage entirely.
Congress passed H.R. 1, a sweeping federal budget bill that makes significant cuts to Medicaid nationwide. Montana DPHHS has decided to fast-track those changes starting July 1, despite Montanans showing up and asking them to slow down.
April is Medicaid Awareness Month.
What's happening in Montana (and across the country) right now will have impacts that extend far beyond the month.
March 22 is Montana Constitution Day. The rights you have today are worth fighting for.
Our Constitution. Our Choice.
#Montana #MontanaConstitution #ReproductiveRights #RighttoPrivacy
The Montana Constitution explicitly guaranteed the right to privacy. For decades, that privacy right has been the backbone of reproductive freedom in Montana. Courts have repeatedly held that the state cannot interfere in private medical decisions, including abortion, because of this protection.
In 1972, 100 Montanans gathered to rewrite the state's constitution from scratch.
They were teachers, lawyers, farmers, and everyday citizens. They debated, disagreed, and ultimately signed a document on March 22, 1972 that still governs Montana today.
For campaign organizers, this raises the bar. More signatures get tossed, which means campaigns need to collect even more to compensate.

Now, paid canvassers must verbally identify their name, home state, and paid status before collecting your signature. Miss that script? Every signature they gathered can be thrown out.
The 2025 Legislature made it harder to put issues on your ballot.
Republican lawmakers passed new rules that specifically target paid signature gatherers - the people who help campaigns reach the signature thresholds required to put an issue before voters.

We believe democracy must be accessible, equitable, and inclusive. Policies that function like modern-day poll taxes undermine dignity, autonomy, and equal participation.
#SAVEact #votingaccess #voterrights
Here’s what that means:
• Millions of Americans don’t have these documents readily available
• Over half of Americans don’t have a passport
• Women who have changed their names could face additional hurdles
• Young voters, low-income voters, and elderly voters would be disproportionately impacted
The SAVE Act is being framed as “election security.” But let’s be clear: this bill would create new barriers to voting for millions of eligible Americans.
The proposal would require documentary proof of citizenship, like a passport or birth certificate, just to register to vote.
This is exactly why we organize, educate, and take action to defend Montana’s Constitution. Learn more about our work: mtchoicetakeaction.org

-Montanans have twice rejected constitutional conventions.
-We already have a constitutional amendment process, change doesn’t require risking our entire framework of rights.
It’s worth remembering what’s at stake:
-The Montana Constitution protects our right to privacy, which is the foundation for abortion access and personal medical decision-making.
-In November 2024, Montana voters approved CI-128, a constitutional amendment to protect abortion.
A new push from the Mountain States Policy Center is encouraging discussion about a possible Montana Constitutional Convention in 2030, a move that could put core rights up for renegotiation.

These requirements could block millions of eligible voters, and have a disproportionate impact on women and marginalized communities.
Call the U.S. Capitol Switchboard 202-224-3121 and urge Montana’s U.S. Senators to oppose the SAVE Act.
Democracy depends on access, and the SAVE Act puts that at risk.
The bill has passed the U.S. House and is now headed to the Senate. While it’s framed as an election security bill, it would actually require documentary proof of citizenship just to register to vote.
💜Choice is sweet💜
And we’re serious about defending it.
Through education, advocacy, and collective action, we’re working work to protect and expand reproductive freedom in Montana.

When insurance gets more expensive, women are often forced to delay care, skip prescriptions, or drop coverage altogether, and families pay the price.
Affordable care shouldn’t be optional.
#montana #healthcare #womenshealth #healthequity #healthcoverage #familyhealth
Women are being priced out of health coverage, and Congress knows it.
ACA open enrollment is closed, and premiums are going up because Congress let the enhanced tax credits expire.
In Montana, more than 72,000 people will rely on HealthCare.gov coverage this year.
It’s giving Groundhog Day...
Same attacks. Same misinformation. Same politicians trying to control personal medical decisions.
But also? Same Montanans showing up and fighting back. 💪

When fear is used as a governing tool, autonomy disappears long before any law is passed.
Congress is deciding this week whether to expand ICE funding by billions without meaningful accountability.
