At the end of the day, for these weirdos, it’s not about the event and losses and material impacts of 9/11 itself so much as it gives them an excuse to be xenophobic, Islamophobic, and racist on main, and it disgusts me.

I remember driving by Pepperdine a couple years ago on 9/11 and there was this massive American flag display on their front lawn. I was like “??? we don’t even do that in NYC, what are you doing”

like yeah most people in NYC above a certain age have a 9/11 story, I have trauma from it still. it was fucked up how survivors and first responders died from cancer and other diseases they got from inhaling debris. but as a city we’ve moved on, bc other bad shit has happened since (Sandy!)

it confuses and angers me as someone from NYC who remembers 9/11 how right wing groups from other parts of the US have this continued preoccupation with it as an event when the effect it had on their lives is nil in comparison to actual New Yorkers who lived through it
