I've had this for 25 years now ๐ Was misdiagnosed as BPPV for a long while, in 2019 I tried to get another diagnosis but no one knows what's causing it. Physically everything works well, but on certain triggers I get this spinning vertigo. Currently tracking, suspecting vestibular migraine.
Boot bananas work amazingly well for me, but I'm only doing 1-1.5h per session, so YMMV
Sounds very familiar. I've been tracking symptoms (vertigo, headache, tinnitus, nausea, stress and weather changes) for almost half a year now as after half a life of misdiagnosis (BPPV etc) I'm currently suspecting it being a vestibular migraine (got a migraine history) & want to get another check.
Yeah, it sucks. Have had it for 25 years now, mostly it doesn't get in the way/I've got it under control, but there are shitty days sadly.
Me on a blue route, pulled against the wall and looking at where I need to go. Stats overlay shows 5 routes, max difficulty of 5 and 13:33 climb time.
Me lying on the padded floor, looking at the ceiling, trying to make the vertigo stop again that I just triggered.
Finally dared to go #bouldering again but halfway through the session had to stop ๐ My chronic vertigo has been acting up the past weeks now thanks to weather & stress, and got triggered by the climbing movements. FFS.
But at least I got *some* routes done again.
I'm currently learning #Popochiu to create my own adventures in #Godot and I'll have to see how to replicate that control scheme there!
Also, I played it on the #SteamDeck with the controller input scheme instead of the usual mouse controls and I have to say that was one of the most interesting and well working controller based input schemes I've ever seen in a point-and-click adventure!
Just finished The Drifter. What an amazing point & click adventure that was! Graphics, sound, atmosphere, music, UX just clicked & the story got me hooked instantly. If you like the genre, I can really only recommend getting and playing this, it's worth it!

Steamdeck OLED with custom made green d-pad and action buttons.
I've now created myself a set of custom #Steamdeck action buttons as well, and also went through the steps to make a custom d-pad too. So now my Steamdeck has a nice set of shimmering green buttons ๐
Me on a corner route, currently busy trying to get my leg on a high foot hold. Stats overlay shows 12 routes, max difficulty of 5 and 12:25 climb time.
It's Friday, which means I went #bouldering again this morning! Some new routes again, and even though I was extremely tired I managed to get a good workout I think ๐ช
Me working my way around a route built into a corner. Stats overlay shows 18 routes, max difficulty of 5, 19:24 climb time.
Still in recharging mode (this vacation really was extremely necessary and almost too late it seems) but still went #bouldering this morning! My arms ended up fully pumped way too early for some reason, but still managed to do some that required grip strength ๐ช
Hah, that's awesome!
If I ever find myself in The Hague I'll definitely have to check out Nirvana! ๐
Just this year a new gym opened up in a repurposed church about 45min away from here, Boulderchurch: maps.app.goo.gl/8LGESeZWqVZT... Haven't been yet though, it's still on the to-do list ^^
That was a really nice catch there and I love how close you keep your hips to the wall! ๐๐
Also: is that gym in an old church or something? That window there in the background looks so fancy ๐
I've posted some of my pictures from #why2025 over at my Fedi account: chaos.social/@foosel/1150...
This was the first event like that where I took a proper camera with me (Lumix GX80 and a couple of lenses) and it certainly won't be the last.
Me hanging off a traversal route. Stats overlay shows 17 routes, max difficulty of 5, 17:28 climb time.
Still recovering from WHY and work, but still went #bouldering this morning. Ooof, what a heat in the hall, even at 7am! ๐ฅต But I still managed to get some routes done, some old, some new, and it felt good to work out again!
This has definitely been also a highlight of my experience at @why2025.bsky.social , lovely to meet Gina and find out we have so much in common ๐ซถ๐ป already thinking about next camp!
Selfie of me and Erika smiling at the camera together
I'm still in full blown recharging mode, but I want to share that one of my (admittedly many) personal highlights of my past few days at #why2025 was meeting @erikaheidi.bsky.social in real life and nerding out about climbing and 3d printing! ๐
Even the 3 is!
Thanks everyone for the kind words words when I was laid off from GitHub in May. I promptly shut my computer and took a few lovely months of vacation โบ๏ธ
Now Iโm back and starting interviewing! So if youโre looking for an expert in building community-first programs, nowโs the time to let me know โ๏ธ
Awesome, now I have something more to look forward to, meeting you! ๐๐
To WHY!? Omg, if so we need to meet! My buddy and I will bring our data gnomes (datagnome.de) and deploy all 10 across the camp site ๐
Small sketch in my bullet journal showing a little drawing of a tent, the sun and a palm tree with the word "Urlaub!" - German for "vacation!" - hovering above all.
Vacation mode: on
Some desperately needed time off is starting now. Looking forward to @why2025.bsky.social and some rest before and after ๐
might take a while but I'll do my best to give an update after some experience ๐
View of my office desk in standing mode, with a walking pad underneath.
My home office just got an upgrade I've been thinking about for more than half a decade ๐ฌ
I can now not only stand while working (electric standing desk bought back in 2015), no, I can also now WALK while working thanks to a shiny new walking pad ๐
Me pressed into a corner, holding myself up with both hands behind me and my feet against both walls. My head is quite red and my face looks very grimly
And I gave it my all ๐
Me moving around a corner on a green route. Stats overlay shows 14 routes, max difficulty of 5 and 16:29 climb time.
And another #bouldering session has been done! ๐ช As this year so far has been extremely tricky with regards to minor injuries, vertigo and such, I'm proud of every single one I manage to do!
Me climbing a green corner route that has me mean back and push against the wall with my feet. Stats overlay shows 18 routes, max difficulty 6A and 19:04 climbing time.
FINALLY back on the wall! Thanks to some injuries and EuroPython it's been three weeks since the last #bouldering session, but today I finally made it back. Very happy with the session too, of 18 routes I topped 16 ๐ Probably will fight the Soreness of Doom this time tomorrow though ๐
Me sitting in a waiting area at an airport, with a plush donkey on my head (and hat).
The plush donkey is looking up at a display at an airport. He's wearing a little backpack.
Together with my travel buddy Timothy I'm now also on my way to @europython.eu! For now some waiting at the gate is in order...
