The water flows over smooth, mossy rocks in multiple miniature waterfalls, catching glints of light as it moves downhill. Bright green vegetation, including alpine wildflowers and leafy groundcover, flanks both sides of the stream, thriving in the moist environment. Larger granite boulders line the water’s path, some casting soft shadows across the mossy banks. Tall evergreen trees frame the background, their trunks dappled with sunlight filtering through the canopy. The setting is quiet and shaded, with no human presence visible—just water in motion, plants at peak summer growth, and the calm, untamed feel of backcountry wilderness. The image captures a moment of stillness and natural flow, highlighting the rugged yet delicate balance of life above treeline in Colorado’s high country.

Off-trail near Mirror Lake, a little creek breaks rules the forest forgot it had since last spring. No boundaries, no bias, no bloviating.

Just movement and seasonal rhythm.

Meanwhile, the loudest people are still arguing about maps.

Gouda used to have a proper castle, it can be seen here to the right of the church.
This is an etching from ca. 1573 by the Flemish cartographer Frans Hogenberg. It was pulled down in 1577.
A corn windmill was built on this elevated location.
It is called 'Molen 't Slot' which means castle.
