Not in our name: Women in support of the trans+ community Can you spare a minute to help this campaign?

To mark the 1st day of my 4th year without Alice I have an announcement:
I’ve joined up with a determined group of women working to change the narrative around trans people. Women standing in solidarity with our trans siblings.

Our first step is to ask cis women to read and sign our open letter ⬇️

8/ Despite the ruling, the legal argument is not finished and the human cost of such a ban or its horrific effects on a minority community must not be overlooked.

In the next couple of days we’ll put together a brief guide on key points you might make.

We fight on.

Many TACTT members joined the tens of thousands of people across the country today protesting the recent supreme court ruling. Incredible to see these numbers at such short notice!

Please take care of yourselves and one another. These are scary times, but there are also many, many of us who will stand against hate and bigotry.
Trans and non-binary people know who we are, and no ruling can change that. (3/4)

As therapists, we are seeing the fear and desperation this ruling - and the wider context of increasing hostility towards trans people both in the UK and the USA - is having for our trans, non-binary, queer and gender nonconforming clients. (2/4)

We are devastated and enraged by yesterday's supreme court ruling which ruled that trans women are not included in the definition of women in the Equality Act.

UK Supreme Court Rules That Trans Women Aren’t Women under the Equality Act 2010 The legal definition of a woman in the UK now excludes trans people: This is what it means for Trans+ rights in the country

13/ @jessothomson.co.uk's takeaway:

Now is the moment to work in solidarity with other marginalised groups, and resist an establishment which wants to force us into ever smaller boxes.

My favorite myth is the lung size in trans women gives them a blanket advantage. Taller individuals naturally have larger lungs on average) & lung size is not a good predictor of sport performance (Hopkins et al., 2018; Degens et al., 2019; Åstrand et al., 1964).

Fact ~ no studies exist which shows trans women can run or swim faster, jump higher, or throw farther than cis women athletes.

You have to demonstrate that before excluding” transgender athletes!!!!!

Our best wishes are with every fox out there today trying to escape the hunts.

Solidarity to all those out there dimming their light to spend time with their family this festive season. That is a self-sacrificing gift to them that they will probably never recognise. I see you. You aren't alone. 💜🫂💜

Today I’m editing a chapter on aromanticism. So I’m currently scrolling an 1850s German document (a language I am NOT proficient in) to try and find a reference for asexuality (for context, not conflation)!

Always important to remember psychology has always been, and continues to be, as much about regulation and disciplinary power as healing.

I’ve spent my day editing chapter authors’ submissions for a book. The last chapter of the day was detransitioning, pointing out just how little we know, &how little support there is. Research tends to suggest it’s rarely about being not being trans, & more to do with not feeling ok to be ourselves

What Would A Woman Do To An Unconscious Man If She Thought No-One Would Find Out? I’ve been thinking about this a lot over the course of the trial of Dominique Pelicot and his fellow accused: what would a woman do to an unconscious man if she thought no-one would find out?

Guessing you’ve seen this? open.substack.com/pub/annawhar...

In today’s good news (whilst the rest of the world is on fire) one of us (this one) got send a pre-order copy of MJ Barker and Alex Iantaffi’s newest book and my reward for the next hour or so is to make a start on it!

Photo of my two cats, Fergus and Francie, snuggled in a cushy cat bed together. Fergus, a large brown tuxedo tabby, has his forelegs wrapped around Francie, a petite white cat. Francis is blissfully snoozing against his chest while Fergus looks at the camera.

Oh my goodness. I just noticed that I passed 200K followers here. Thank you! I never could have imagined this when I first started posting about my "boring" little hobby and I'm so grateful to be able to share the joy these vintage images bring me. Thank you all so much! 😭❤️
