"this artist scammed me! they sold me a object that they told me contained truth and/or beauty, but when i looked inside it only contained an arrangement of objects and symbols, and i had to bring my own flawed interpretations in order to derive meaning!"
yeah dipshit, that's all of them

7. "Most games are played only once" is used as an argument to "protect"/stabilize that first/only play from leaving a bad taste in the mouth. It should be the opposite. Design a game TO BE played once, a wild throatpunch. It's all ephemera anyway; none of it will last.
Updated my geeklist of favorite trick-taking/climbing games to include 50 titles instead of 25. I haven't written my mini reviews of the new additions yet but I heartily recommend all of these card games!

What is going on there?? I must know more…
"Genes, Traits, and Identities: Navigating Sex, Gender, and Sexuality in Modern Research"
Frequently the trans and intersex communities are excluded from population-based genomics studies because they cannot be put in a neat box. But sex is a complex trait, like many other traits we study #ASHG25
Been trying out a new pub style dice game. It's called Crow's Nest. It’s a mix of Poker Dice, Yahtzee, ladder climbing, and some good deal of push your luck. Special thanks to @odddicegames.bsky.social for coming up with the name!

I’ve been testing my new 2p Fishing/Rummy style card game! I’m calling it Heavenly Bodies 🪐💫🌙
It’s feeling very close to finding its spark! ✨
Stacking! Yay!
55%! WE NEED MOOOOOOORE! Jump on in today and let's get that number to 60-70-80-90+% if we can!!!!! (WE CAN!!!!!!) ⚡ ⚡
Also, if you are into the medieval-renaissance printing press illustratory thing AND like a German flavor (as I do), you can access quality scans of the Nuremberg Chronicle courtesy of Cambridge. This color palette! Love!

“Trans people have kitchen tables. People that love trans people have kitchen tables. Immigrants have kitchen tables,” Abughazaleh said. “Democrats have been messaging on this issue, which is basic human decency, wrong this entire time. It’s a two-pronged thing. When it comes to extremism, if you’re constantly ceding ground that trans people don’t deserve to exist, or that there are carve-outs for that … it never stops with the people that you deem inhuman, it will always come to you.”

Everything really is gender.
No matter what happens I’m so glad I got to be trans. I’m so proud that I figured out what was wrong with me and was brave enough to fix it. I’m so grateful I got to share myself with so many amazing people. I’m so blessed I got to look in the mirror and feel love for the person staring back.
I used to work at an after-school program where we taught games to kids, which informs some of who I design games for.
It’s a huge jump between games intended for parents to teach kids VS games intended for kids to teach kids. The different between them is communicated very poorly in the market.

I don’t know, but curious: isn’t this what Ravelry is built for? (Not a crocheter myself)
Some of y'all have yelled at people for saying they won't vote for this guy—a man who wants to honor CHARLIE FUCKING KIRK BY CONTINUING "HIS WORK."
Never talk to me about this man again.
This convo I had highlights the difference in what "respect your time" means in games.
A lot of players want to trade time for in-game progress. It's purely transactional: 1 hour = 1 progress
But I want to feel like my actions matter i.e. what I do with time creates progress, not time itself.

Ooh, didnt know about Jenga!
Candy Land is by Eleanor Abbott, too. That would add some serious numbers.
I wonder how total # of sales would look, if you give the design credit for Monopoly to Lizzie Maggie. At 100s of millions of copies, it might dwarf the entire hobby market.
Should you care? When things are this far off parity, it feels like a sign that something is weird. You're probably not getting the best games you could be getting if design were being undertaken and published by a broader spectrum of people. (🧵5/6)
1. My newest Anti-Trans Legal Risk Map is here.
Risk has increased sharply for youth in many states as clinics shutter under Trump and state AGs refuse to enforce civil rights laws.
For adults, some increases in risk.
Nationwide risk remains extreme.

It's fun art Friday! We're proud to team up with designer Carol LaGrow & artist Faith Shaffer to bring “The Six of VIII” back in a brand new edition for retail release next year.
It will be available to purchase early as part of our upcoming KS campaign.

Yep. I like Geoff Engelstein’s definition of game which is enormously broad, personally.
Fascinating insights. I have an interest in ancient/old games, and many of them strike me as “more activities than games”. A modern genre I believe has largely avoided competition is party games, where many are often played without tracking the points.
I'm currently working on a Doppelkopf card deck for the Tokyo Game Market Autumn!
I have some family members who are deep in the LLM cult. Everything I do, they send me an AI output after asking it to do the same thing. I make a game, they ask it to make up a game and send it to me. I draw a comic, they do likewise… It’s exhausting and offensive, but they don’t see it.
