Vitals are the beginning of the exam, so usually done pre-rooming. Depending on the circumstances, vitals will be continuously taken inside the room as well via o2 and BP monitor. Screen is usually in room and connects to nurses station.

Having said that, sometimes vitals (heart rate, respirations, temperature and blood pressure) may be taken right at the receptionist’s desk area. It depends on acuity and how busy the ER is at that moment. We take HIPAA very seriously with patients and try to provide privacy

So, generally, you check in at with a receptionist. They’ll ask why you are there, symptoms, etc. They enter you in the system and you get a bracelet and wait. Triage occurs behind a curtain or door inside the ER. This is for privacy reasons
