I just tried to "up dog" my seven year old nephew.
"hey, do you have up dog?"
Him: "Yeah!" And runs off to his room.
He comes back with a toy: the dog from "Up".
"it's the Up Dog"
Damn he got me

A picture of a thrifted, half circle wood piece with a formline design painted on it. The design depicts a sitting brown rabbit on a field of bright green grass, surrounded by pollen and small blue and pink flowers.
A picture of the same piece, but from a higher angle. Along the edge of the wood piece is a symmetrical formline design of a white rabbit lying down.

I Work Very Hard, And I Would Like To Try Cake By A Horse Hello. I am a horse. I work very hard at my job of being a horse. When humans say move the heavy thing, I move the heavy thing. When humans sit on top of me and pull on my head, I carry them where they want to go. The main food the humans give me is hay and oats. But I am thinking it would be nice to have a different food. I am thinking I would like to try cake. Yes, yes. Cake. I know all about it. When humans eat cake, it is in glad times. It is the food for a celebration, such as when a woman becomes 47. I have seen cake on the Fourth of July. When humans have a cake, they stand around it and clap hands and smile and say happy birthday at each other. Sometimes there are beautiful markings on a cake, such as balloons or a pink shape. Sometimes the top of a cake is on fire and a boy must blow on the fire with mouth wind. This is the scariest cake. I do not want this kind. But I will eat any other cake. Any cake that is not the fire cake that tries to kill the boy. Please understand: I do not get money for doing work. I do not get to go inside the house. All I am either doing my horse job or standing in my pen or eating food off the floor. I always do these things. But I have never once gotten cake and I would like it very much. I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children. I am more helpful to the farm. Children do not move the heavy things like me or let anyone ride on them. And yet they get cake. Maybe the humans will realize this. Maybe they will say, "You know who deserves cake? That horse. That horse whose back we are always on." Every day I dream about what it will be like if I get to eat cake. Here is what will happen. First, I will walk to the cake and putt my nose at it like hrrfff to make and stomping my hooves to make sure it is not a snake. Then I will trot in a circle to show that I am a horse and I am large. After that, I will nuzzle the cake to …
The horse op-ed is an instant classic. I can't tell you how much joy this piece gives me.
It should be taught in every introductory writing class in no small part because the horse arguments are so compelling. "I have noticed that human children get to eat cake. But I am bigger than the children."

lbh the pop culture trope of "enhancing" a blurry image with a computer to solve a mystery has a lot to answer for here. The writers of shows like Star Trek and CSI were making up fake computer technology that didn't exist at the time and didn't anticipate how bad genAI would be at this.

...and never come across any reference to the most famous scene of a staple of the genre that came out when my parents were in high-school and remained in the zeitgeist since.
I'm not going to go out of my way to specifically spoil Luke Skywalker's parentage for someone, but on the other hand it really wouldn't occur to me that someone could have an interest in sci-fi...
I think there are definitely some pieces where it's reasonable to assume that you *won't* spoil it. Either because it's foundational to the genre or medium, or because it's famous specifically for the twist, or often both.
Why did I immediately identify this as a limerick

Screenshot of a Tumblr post from OP's blog, bramblepatch, dated March 18, 2023. An anonymous user asks: "What is your Hogwarts house?" bramblepatch replies: "Actually I've already processed all five stages of grief in regards to a beloved author from my childhood very publicly making the jump from "milquetoast liberal with unexamined biases" to "actively dangerous bigot who will double down into perpetuity" and will no longer be basing any part of my identity on her intellectual property! Thanks for asking!"
Anyway in light of the new HP stuff I'm just gonna bring this over from Tumblr.
Just saw a pharm ad that listed several side effects I've never seen any medication warn about. Truly there are still new experiences in this world, and apparently one of those experiences is "swelling between the genitals and anus."

A digital drawing of Dot and Ted, identical twin goblin aviators. Both have lilac skin, purple eyes, and curly black hair. Dot, on the right, is wearing denim bib overalls over a white short-sleeved blouse, bright red mary-janes, and has her hair tied up with a red and white polkadot scarf. She's standing up straight, with a very large wrench held behind her back. Ted, on the left, is leaning on their sister with one arm slung around her shoulders. They're wearing a brown bomber jacket open over their wrapped chest, with khaki pants, brown boots with red laces, and a brown aviator cap. There's a bandage over the bridge of their nose and two notches in their ear.

A monochromatic digital sketch of an anthropomorphic raven wearing high-waisted, knee-length pants and a loose sleeveless shirt. In this outfit you can see that her feathers cover her upper arms and legs before giving way to dark, leathery skin, and her build is thin and flat-chested. She has multiple belts slung around her waist with pouches and a quiver of arrows hanging from them, and a large sun hat hanging on her back.
