Living in between a corpo job and only enough creative energy to barely part time my artistic work is frustrating… and the math continues to suck too much to leap into anything full time.
No matter how meager I set my goals, “net positive” continues to be too high a bar to clear
I have a limited budget for creating in spite of haters. And as I branch into more diverse spaces, I’m quickly learning my tastes for documentary are trumping my appetite for modeling… esp as I try to break out to more creative posing and prompting.
And I know it’s because I keep putting my furry work at the front. I know what serious portfolio reviews go like with my work and I see how lacking “sellability” closes a lot of doors.
I REALLY want to do local/regional shows because locality is such a critical component of my favorite photographers work… but without a lock-in for subject or underserved group, I am getting zero traction.
Even with slam dunk calls my work goes ignored…
Been subscribing to more grants and calls for more serious art opportunities… and trying to navigate the space.
A lot of REALLY COOL calls come up and I continue to feel like a poor fit between CV and portfolio…

I’ve been taking my “high effort, silly subjects” work on the road outside of furry and it’s a massive hot/cold split when normies flip through my furry portfolio.
The work is the same, only the subject changes. I’m not trying for acceptability, but I can’t help but judge some viewers as cowards 😅
So many artists I look up to have their work featured and it feels effortless 😅 and I keep trying to follow in their footsteps… but often it feels like there are stair steps I can’t use.
It’s always “never apologize for your work” until a weirdo enters the room
