Will RFK Jr’s podcast actually address Americans’ public health concerns? Secretary Kennedy Podcast so far seems designed to promote Trump administration talking points over any specific public health message

Health and Human Services Secretary RFK Jr. has no public health credentials to his name, but he does have a few years of podcasting experience under his belt, which he brought to the role of Health Secretary with the launch of a new show last week.

My latest.

THC drinks gain popularity in the US – but can they fully replace alcohol? A growing trend of state laws permit the sale of cannabis drinks – and beverage companies are angling to make the next hit alcohol alternative

The same law that lets you buy flower online is also why some grocery and liquor stores sell THC drinks. I wrote about whether they could be real competition for alcohol.

Chicago’s United Center to offer cannabis drinks – could other arenas follow? Drinks to be sold at concerts under federal legislation but attenders may have to wait to imbibe at sporting events

More recently, my local stadium that’s the home to the Bulls and the Blackhawks became the first ever to offer THC drinks.

(Only at concerts not sports though lol.)

Nearly 43,000 people commented on the DEA reclassifying cannabis. What did they say? Analysis shows 69% of commenters want the proposed rule change to go further and for marijuana to be decriminalized or legalized

Happy 420, everyone. I’ve been covering cannabis for for nearly two years now. Sharing some of my favorites.

Here’s one from way back in 2024, when it seemed like cannabis might actually be rescheduled.

Nearly 43k ppl commented, many wanting full legalization.

2 years later, still schedule 1.

Comparison between modeled and proxy-derived ranges of atmospheric pCO₂ during the Phanerozoic. Panels (A), (B), and (C) show comparisons for the Paleozoic (∼541–251.9 Ma), Mesozoic (251.9–66.0 Ma), and Cenozoic (∼66 Ma–present), respectively. In each panel, the modeled pCO₂ range reflects simulations in which volcanic outgassing rates are varied within plausible bounds, and is compared with proxy-based reconstructions for the corresponding interval. The results indicate that variations in outgassing exert a first-order control on long-term pCO₂ variability, with no statistically significant difference (p-value >0.05) between the modeled ranges and proxy-derived estimates.

Sometimes I nead to deal with the line "if no one was burning fossil fules in the geologic past, how come we got temprature spikes?"
The answer is outgassing by deep Earth processes, which can tap huge carbon pools. 🧪

I don't think that last insight is novel, many many people have said it. But my sense is we now have the conceptual and experimental tools to make wide progress with complex or even natural behaviors. It will still be challenging!

9 hours ago 7 1 2 0

I think this is generally correct, and I was saying to someone today that 10 yrs ago I was in favor of very controlled behaviors.

But in the past, estimating info from a few neurons required many trials and controlling attention and other fluctuations. We need less artifice now w/ population data.

For those attending the White House Correspondents' Dinner this weekend, a small question:

When you're sitting there at your table, do you think it'll cross your mind that the guest of honor is actively covering up his role in a massive child sex trafficking operation?
