Anyone wondering about an example of a vestibular disorder which affects vision and motion sensitivity - nystagmus. I have acquired nystagmus, surprisingly it affects a broad range of things from motion tracking, light sensitivity, and other things! my.clevelandclinic.org/health/disea...

Honestly any game over $100 I would really question if it's worth it. Even Elden Ring was a massive game and I felt I didn't pay enough for it, huge amount of content compared to previous Souls games for maybe $60-70. Thankfully we have indie games that aren't quite so insane about their pricing.

Optimizing Portfolio Images for Web (Updates) - Future Horizon Design I discuss some methods of reducing image size using Linux command line utilities like optipng and image magick. This includes reducing colour depth and applying dithering.

I wrote a blog post about how I optimized some PNGs on my website to reduce the filesize. I talk Custom Actions, optipng, and Image Magick commands.

It depends how much you want to penalize those who make artwork or do photograpy or long-form content with pictures. For penalizing bloat and unoptimized content, maybe 1MB as an upper limit or maybe 500kB for extra difficulty. My images tend to be around 100-400kB each but I do try to optimize.

A green field covered in dandelion flowers blooming, a circling arc shows the wind trail carrying the dandelion seeds into the sky. The dandelion seeds on the flowers are made using a repeating geometric pattern with blur and small opacity effects applied.

I made this early 2000s style vector graphic for the Inkscape March challenge "Spring". It's still open if you'd like to contribute!

I use Unsplash all the time to find reference images and mood board images. If you care about photography and are an experienced front-end engineer, there's a new position you might be interested in!

The logo is a minimal and flat style icon. The plug shape is overlaid on a brain shape with plug slots. The brain shape is blocky with rounded edges, inspired by tetromino blocks. This is a light mode logo with teal, dark green, and beige colours.

I wrote a blog post about my process involved in redesigning the PlugBrain app's logo. I talk about open-source, accessible formats, and general Linux tips.

A cartoon with flat colours on a purple and yellow isometric grid background. Xue the mouse has climbed onto the mug and is looking at the swirling liquid inside. The mug is filled with red-pink liquid and the debian swirl logo is like a curl of steam. Tux the penguin is sleeping against the tea mug and saucer on the opposite side with his fins resting on his stomach. The Linux, XFCE logo, and Debian text logo are in two separate purple squares of the grid and have a light yellow fill. The latter two are listed as XFCE x Debian.

I published this Xfce Debian wallpaper I made to Pling and also made the source vector SVG available to download from my website (under the GPL license).

I'm happy to announce I'm launching the world's first HMM or Human Manual Model. Unlike a LLM, a HMM allows users to give tasks to a human via spoken or typed prompts. The human will do the tasks and will even learn how to do the task more efficiently if the task is to be repeated.

A smiling lucky cat with its right paw raised. It has a red ribbon around its neck with a yellow bell on it. It has magenta whiskers and claws, and its ears are red and magenta. It is smiling. There is a large vector version at 512px size and two small pixel art versions at 32px and 16px sizes.

I made a pixel art lucky cat and a high-resolution vector version for the Inkscape February Challenge: Make a Retro Gaming Asset. Blog post in the comments.

There's time left if you want to try it!

powRSS is a useful website which reminds me a lot of Gemini protocol aggregators like Antenna and Cosmos - everyone with an RSS site should sign up! The shuffle and randomize tool are good for finding new content to read and blogs to follow.

Portrait orientation flat-style artwork. Above and below are reef-like shapes with schools of fish arcing above and pebbles on the rocks below. Between is a light blue floor made up of coral with holes in it. Three elongated frames overlaid on top contain blobby cell like structures in the first frame, rain and pebbles in the second, and a low-opacity overlay on top. Beneath the third frame are floating embryo like shapes that look like question marks.

I made an abstract artwork inspired by the style of Marina Vandra for the January Inkscape Challenge. It represents ocean creatures and primitive lifeforms.

Hope you all like it! I'm trying to explore other art styles.

It's good that genAI has a dedicated channel and is separated from the other channels. I've seen some servers have a "politics containment zone" for political discussions (though I don't tend to use them). Is there a policy to protect LGBTQ people? Like, no homophobia -no misgendering, deadnaming?

4 months ago 2 0 1 0

Hey, just wondering if there's a code of conduct and what the server's stance on genAI is?

I got the "verify your age" notice since I'm based in Australia and an under 16 ban has started so I can't view my DMs anymore without a VPN.

I don't intend on verifying my age for security reasons, so I've turned DMs off. If you need to ask me something privately, please send me an email.

A mandala featuring organic patterns of a sunflower in the middle, dots and squiggles, gumtree leaves and pods, wattle flowers and leaves, and banksia in the outer rings. The outermost ring has sequential lines and dot patterns with concentric yellow circles above the banksia flower and green, marroon, ochre, and beige surrounding it. The mandala has a brown background, using colours of green, pink, yellow, beige, and maroon.

Submitted an entry to the Inkscape vector challenge for November which is to make a mandala. This one is inspired by First Nations artwork.

Global Privacy Control (GPC)

This is being worked on! The latest iteration is w3c.github.io/gpc/. The big problem here is that legislature needs to get involved, and if you think web standards are slow, wait til you see how long it takes to get unilateral agreement from global governments πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

A way to automatically deny all tracking and advertising cookies, and additional toggles for function and "necessary" cookies. Some standardization or easy way to add "exceptions" to a cookie block list so we don't have to have to interact with these "Do you accept cookie" banners everywhere.
