A very early photo of Ralf and Florian of Kratwerk playing live.
"This was not an organized movement like punk or rave, but kismet. Musicians all over the country simultaneously decided to forge something new from the cultural ashes of their country."

Mary and The Hyenas
Six microphones and one electrifying musical score. Meet Mary and the Hyenas.
I’ve been a bit slack with the posting lately as I’ve been super busy opening this terrific theatre production with an amazing group of people. I promise to do better in the future.

This excellent essay outlines one of my problems with magic/the occult in horror. If anything is possible then nothing is interesting (Buffy, the witch ssn of AHS, etc), but if you over explain (rules, etc) it loses the mystery/numinous. In my own writing, I hope/pray (1/2)

Really looking forward to catching this. @helenczerski.bsky.social is a great science communicator and @cosmicshambles.com is a brilliant initiative (if that’s the right term). Well worth supporting.

Are UK Parties Failing on Climate Crisis Commitment?
Discover why 58% find Labour unambitious on climate action as the UK's Climate and Nature Bill sparks controversy and calls for a conscience vote.
“Keir Starmer faces pressure to allow a free vote on the Climate and Nature Bill, a Private Members Bill led by Dr Roz Savage MP. The #CANBill proposes raising the UK’s emissions reduction targets, restoring nature and creating a citizens assembly.” @edienet.bsky.social

This platform is ok but I would be happier if I was seeing more modular synthesis, more old song recommendations (disco, jazz, funk, house), more MENA music, more weird fiction, more modernism, more sci fi.
Recommend ppl for me to follow & for each new one I’ll recommend a book/LP/film in return.

Middle aged white male, me, wearing a navy blue beret, ray ban sunglasses standing and what passes for a smile, standing in a field with a weak winter sun behind them.
Solstice blessings everyone. Here’s to the lengthening of the days.

I mean I love Marina Hyde and Richard Osman but what on earth makes anyone think I want to look at them while they entertain each other? What makes that better than listening while walking a dog? Nothing is the answer, in fact it would probably be worse.

Yeah, I love it and I wouldn’t have said I was a big fan, more just liked some of the singles. But it’s really got its claws in me. The bass guitar sound is particularly terrific.

I think I might have been at that Lush gig too. Got a vague memory of a very disappointing gig there but wasn’t sure if it was Low, so many one word bands at the time.
