Plutarch (Greek & Roman historian) described how the Spartans limited civic education to maintain social control over the young:

"Reading & writing they gave them, just enough to serve their turn; their chief care was to make them good subjects, & to teach them to endure pain & conquer in battle."

Great Idea!

That's why our goal is to distribute 20000 pocket constitutions at minor league ball parks.

But we need your help!

Can you give $100 to help us give away 30 copies of the Constitution?

Had a great night at the Chandler Music Hall.

Met some wonderful civic minded people and received a lot of positive feedback.

The music was wonderful and everyone had a great time!

Civics has been severely underfunded for 50 years.

It was thought to be more important to win the Cold War through technology.

We have 50 years of voters who don't understand their government.

This needs fixing!

Serve on city, county or school board commissions! The planning and zoning commissions, for example, advise elected officials on managing growth, development and land use. Search for "Boards and Commissions" and your state county, or city name. #civics

We're working on a special minor league baseball giveaway.

We are looking for sponsors who will help us print and distribute pocket constitutions at minor league games this summer.

If your business wants to sponsor a giveaway they'll never throw away, get in touch!

If 1st Amendment rights are limited, then all rights can be limited.

Just as the 2md Amendment says "shall not be infringed"

The 1st Amendment says "Congress shall make no law"

The 1st Amendment states "Congress shall make no law... abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press"

Seems like qualified immunity would fall under the plain text of the Constitution even though qualified immunity is an invention of the Courts.

We don't talk about due process like we used to.

Example: this is from "Incredible Hulk" 305 in Feb 1985.

Teens & Young Adults absorbed this in pop culture. We don't have that anymore.

Prices are usually set through a system of supply & demand.

However, with a small number of large sellers in a market prices will often in spite of market conditions.

While we're seeing a slightly decreased supply, & the oil wholesalers are pricing based on uncertainty more than supply.

Wealth tax or income tax? The difference makes a difference.

If we tax wealth, then the value of assets would be potentially taxed.

Income would reach only the amount a person brings in during that year, which for billionares could be significantly less.

However, taxes are an investment in us.

There are so many civics questions every day.

It's important that Americans are educated on the basics prior to the questions of the day so that the current event can be discussed without spending time on the underlying system.

What questions do you have about the systems which govern our lives?

CBS is perfectly within their rights to choose which content to show, and which they don't.

HOWEVER, making these choices based on pressure from the government is unconstitutional.

The government does not get to use its power to influence what we see. #civics #1stamendment

There's been an unusual amount of Gavin Newsom talk on my feed today.

Whether you are for or against, please remember....

Primaries are just as important as general elections.

So make sure your ballot counts more than your posts.

We're trying to give remedial civics lessons to adults. The 250th was a big motivator!

2 months ago 0 0 0 0

It's our mission to bring basic civics lessons to adults who didn't receive an adequate civic education.

Our pilot program is launching in March with free micro-lessons distributed through social service organizations.

So we're trying to help! Spread the word!

The Texas Election results are emblematic of the current trend of districts being flipped against a president's party.

This time is different due to the magnitude of the flip.

It's a product of the 2 party system where only 2 viable choices can create decisive swings.

Fascism is difficult for political scientists or historians to define as it was recently created (by Mussolini) and so there are few examples of it and those differ. (German fascism was different than Italian)

But our mission is to educate American adults, so... We're working on it!

So, you were proven wrong about the article, & you change to a blame game?

Civics lesson: the 5th amendment makes clear that people are held responsible for their crimes only after due process of law.

Also "Kin Punishment" is usually practiced by fascist regimes.

Thank you for discussing the lack of civics we all grew up with!

We are currently printing and distributing civics lessons for adults to be distributed in a number of cities through social service agencies.

We are trying to meet the moment!

Freedom of the Press is foundational to democracy.

If the people have no way to understand what their government is doing, and what is happening in neighborhoods other than their own, then votes are meaningless because they are uninformed. #civics #DonLemon
